Outpost is also just a "little" project that I do for fun in my free time.
I'm also unsure about teaming up but it might work out if we split the development along client/server lines (I work on the server side in Rust, Aggie works on the client in Javascript). Anything else would either require that I start writing tons of Javascript (which I'm not willing to do) or that Aggie start writing Rust. In terms of game design, I think we could work something out, since building and defending a farm or village is meant to be one of the main points of Outpost. We should talk more if you guys are interested.
In any case, it would be really cool if you guys would post your pony sprites online for anyone to use (CC-BY-SA or similar license). I'm not sure I would replace Outpost's current sprites right away, but I'm sure someone would find a good use for them (such as >>27764550). Everfree Outpost itself would probably not exist if not for Urimas publishing all the MLP Online sprites after that project got C&D'd.

I don't consider it a ripoff at all. The main similarity is the central idea of doing a farm/town-building game, and that's not exactly unique - "pony Harvest Moon" gets mentioned in nearly every thread about pony-related game ideas. The interesting part is in the details, which I think will turn out quite different between the two games.
