I've been pondering the day/energy thing.
Basically right now a day has 3 parts.
Morning, Afternoon, Evening.
Depending on what day it is and what time of day, some ponies are available/unavaiable at locations.
For example if its evening and you go to rarities shop she's not there so you can't work/study, but you can still buy an item or talk to sweetiebelle (but very basic).
When you talk to a pony the energy bar depletes, and you can consume an item to replenish it.
Whether that energy bar is shared between all ponies or not I haven't decided.
Also the other thing is if each of mane 6 has that love max/energy thing, then any sex scenes outside of that or npc ponies i'm not sure how they'd work (unless i'd give them the same bar, but then that's a lot more interaction stuff to do).
Alternatively it would be just simple sex loop as say if you have item X and stat X the pony will give you a blowjob or something like that on the side.
For work stuff the idea is there's easy work (which moves time of day only from morning to noon or noon to evening), or hard work (which is only available at morning) which takes up entire day, is a minigame and gives you either most gold or none if you fail it.
Have a 31 day timer so that you do have a limit on how you spend your money and try to get all mane6?

I decided to move the energy bar at the top menu, and instead of having morning/noon/evening your actions drain the bar (and you can exercise to increase the max, possibly buy item to replenish it).

If you plan to have a mini-storyline for each character find some writers. In experience it can be a pain to manage and cordinate, but in the long run the quality will generally be better and you'll have less of that copy'n'paste feel to it all.

It was the same projects for a while, but i wanted to learn to really animate all over and draw and i think it's come quite a long way since my earlier stuff, pic related. Alas i stated coding/learning to code last year and poni waifu is the first real full coding project (it would not be possible with what i knew 2 years ago as it would just be a broken spghetti mess like ponk quest was, and why i couldnt keep working on it).

If you know some decent writers it shouldn't end up nearly as bad. Afterall i doubt characters are going to have 20k+ lines of dialogue let alone an engaging scenario to make you want to sit through all of that. There's also alot of frustrating things that make Vns difficult to do with a group of strangers, but i digress. Even one or two extra writers will do alot for quality purposes, the trade off being you'll have to invest time to read through their work or to find someone to do it for you.

Please don't go the newgrounds dating sim route. I've never seen any game where that was done well and not just "train to get stat, get stats to work, work to make money, make money to buy gifts, give gifts to make progress".
Go branching storyline, ie Katawa Shoujo and virtually every half-decent dating sim ever. If you want to use a town map only use it for scene selection, not for girl selection (Da Capo used a town map like that and made it work))
Playing a dating game is about having an emotional experience, not grinding currency for gifts.
(Having a stat system is fine IF you have a parallel game that uses it, ie Utawarerumono.)

Fair critisisms, i'll take a look at the games you mentioned (although the first two i checked seem to all be VN based).
I did a poll on my site about what kind of "gameplay" it would have, and the majority didn't want a visual novel story game hence the idea for a waifu/dating sim instead (people said they didn't like long VN games because it would take hours of getting back to the point of where you were for branching pats and they didn't want to replay it just to see another character).

I had an idea for that in regards to dates. If you "fail" a date, you get a 4-5 day cooldown before you can ask a pony out on the date, and if you fail a level of a date 2-3 times the pony won't want to see you anymore (the game has a 30-40 day limit, haven't determined which yet). If you end up being rejected by the entire mane6 cast you get an ending with the whole town being out with pitch forks to chase you out of town.
