Who could possibly relate to Rarity? She's a popular pony with her own business brought up in a middle-upper class family.

Boy I remember the last time I owned my own business, just like the time I grew up in a family with a decent amount of money to give me a proper education.

And sure, "generosity" is great IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO GIVE IT AWAY, like Rarity just giving shit away because she's fucking scrooge mcduck and la-de-da I'm so fucking rich huehuehue.

"Oh hey Twilight, got a dance coming up? Well here you go, it's made of gold and silk and hoof-crafted to be just like your favorite constellation!"

Wow so relate-able! Gee, what a likeable protagonist!

As you can see fellow anons, here we have an example of a poorfag. He can easily be identified as such with his jealousy of those who can actually get a job and don't live their lives as NEETS.

I guess it's just ok for Rarity to be obscenely wealthy and no one has any problem with it at all.

Although, I'm beginning to understand the sort of scum-rotten people who like her. People who never had to work hard in their lives and had every cent handed to them by mommy and daddy.

Because only those sorts of people could ever really like her.

Fellow rich people just pissing on the poor people as usual. Privileged aristocrats stringing the rest of us along insulting our intelligence.

Rarity is a horrible role-model. Basically, you can only be a generous person if you have lots of money and give away a bunch of stuff.

The moral here is that money buys happiness. And that giving away expensive gifts will win you friends.
>>
>>27593576
im just saying that dispite being a poorfag I can still relate to her as an artist. being wealthy doesnt make you more creative.
>>
implying every character is out there to be related to
>>
You could say the same about Applejack, I wouldnt mind owning a giant tree orchard and being one of the only, if not the only supplyer of food and cider to a whole town.
>>
>>27593451

One is not meant to relate to one's betters darling.
>>
>>27593576
She's wealthy because she put the work in, and that's good. Having money isn't bad if you earn it.
>>
>>27593576
>you can only be a generous person if you have lots of money and give away a bunch of stuff
Yes, those with money can generally afford to give more away than those without. But even people in terrible situations can share what they have with others. Generosity is a measure of a person's ideals, not their wealth.

>the moral here is that money buys happiness
Past a certain point, money starts making people less and less happy. Directionlessness, paranoia, and social isolation are all quite common in the upper class, thanks to their economic status.

>giving away expensive gifts will win you friends
This is so wrong, it's not even funny. Just what definition of "friend" are you using?

And for that matter, what are you even trying to argue, here? That having money automatically makes people evil?
Having the means can help people do evil acts if they choose. And Wall Street does have four times as many psychopaths as the average population. But in the end, the people are the ones making decisions - not their money.
>>
>>27593789
not agreeing with the other guy here, but im having a hard time being generous. I really have almost no expendable income. Although generosity isnt defined by wealth, I do think its a lot easier for people in a decent financial situation to be generous.
It really doesnt feel great being on the receiving end of other people's generosity all the time. Ofcourse they're just trying to help but it feels bad being unable to do anything in return.
>>
>>27593802
Being thankful and grateful is okay, you shouldn't feel bad for accepting gifts. Generosity is proportionate, rich or poor, giving benefits not only the recipient but the giver as well. Generosity spreads kindness, care and love. Don't let the OP fool you, generosity is a beautiful thing.
>>
>>27593826
It is, maybe I come from a very heavily money oriented culture but I dont feel good accepting things if there isnt a reason for it, like a birthday or a celebration of some kind.
I feel like I dont deserve it cause I haven't done anything to earn it, even if its only a few bucks from a friend who's much better off than me, it feels wrong.
>>
>>27593451
Rarity was raised out of a country bumpkin family which she rejected the mannerisms of, and busted her ass trying to remake her entire self-image and create a name for herself doing what she truly loved. She was successful at it, and after a long period of struggle she finally got her own business off the ground and started opening branch offices in major cities.

You're supposed to relate to her, anon, because as an angry old fuck who hates the world and rejects their own family you essentially are her. You are that which she began as. The only difference is she dedicated herself to her dreams Put In The Work and succeeded in life, and you're an utter failure because you're not doing jack shit with yourself.

So yeah, less than relatable. You'd have an easier time relating to her if you'd kept going.
>>
>>27593836
If your friend gave you the money by their own choice, they likely think you do deserve it.

If you feel bad about receiving gifts too often, you could try asking them to cut back a little, or to express their feelings a different way. But that could just be their way of saying they care about you. Gift-giving is one of the love languages (love as in philia, not eros), after all.

So what? You rather relate to a poor mudpony, who is basically a wageslave?
>>
Relate to Rarity? Not so much. Admire her? Absolutely.

Generosity is about more than giving away wealth. It's about giving meaningful gifts and doing so for the joy it brings others. As some examples, the generosity song, or rules of rarity. Making ponies happy and helping them find their own style was more important to her than making money.

Let's look at the recent spa episode. Rarity was perfectly capable of going to the spa without Applejack but was more concerned that her friend was spending too much time working. She wanted Applejack to take some time to relax, not selfishly demanding that she spend time at the spa with her.

Now I'll agree that if you're living paycheck to paycheck, there's not a lot of room to give expensive gifts, but if you think that's all there is to generosity, then you've completely missed the point.
>>
>>27593451
People can relate to characters without relating to their situation.

yes, it's her rich upbringing that got her a house in ponyville with extensive remodeling, and privilege that lets her expand to manehatten and cantorlot.

It's not like her parents are solidly middle class or anything

Why do pseudo-intellectuals have to "identify" with characters? In buzzspeak "identify" means where the viewer shares virtually the exact fucking traits of that character, so I assume you indentified heavily with Zephyr Breeze but hated that he was confident in manipulating people, whereas you can only impotently bitch on internet forums about how you can't identify with wealthy characters because the internet shelters you from the harshness of the real world, so you come to believe your opinions matter.

I don't identify with Rarity at all — I am not wealthy, I have no goals in life and thus I have achieved nothing of value to anyone (not even myself), I am unsuccessful in virtually all undertakings, I'm an ulikeable piece of shit with no friends. And I love Rarity. I think she's fucking great.

I also loved Zephyr Breeze because he's a funny comic relief and the voice actor really sold the "he's a massive cunt but not really" vibe. I don't indentify with him either, because at least he tries, even if he quits halfway through. I don't even try anything at all.

they're kids between 18-24 who haven't figured themselves out yet so they have an obsessive need to "identify" and "relate" with characters, rather than empathizing and understanding them.

>And sure, "generosity" is great IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO GIVE IT AWAY,
A generous poor person can't do shit. Kinda makes you wonder what will happen when everyone is equally poor. It's okay; I'm sure that if the government has all the money, they will take care of everything. All hail the state. Down with rich freemen, up with rich rulers. Yay socialism.

It does make sense if you think about it. People with fewer moral scruples would have an easier time performing in cutthroat businesses. But they're not a majority, by any means.

You're right. Correlative evidence is all I need to make assumptions like that. I'm not jealous or projecting at all!

a lot of things make sense if you think about it

Yes, it is a bit of speculation on my part, but you're missing the point for the buzzwords. My claim was that the overwhelming majority of wealthy people are more or less psychologically normal when compared to the general population, and so far we seem to be in agreement on that.

Don't confuse your allies for the enemy, /pol/. Have a meme.
