well if you listen to the first link and the rest of the audio book it talks about the different forms of the mind, spirit, soul, instinct and the such.
like the comic it does not refer to one such unifying theory but instead it gives you an idea of there explanations for something that seems to be universally true to some degree, as to what direction this is true and false is hard to determine but without trying to grasp at the idea you would not have a direction to search for your own understanding.
for the sake of language, a certain level of understanding is needed to make a new abstraction and the definition of that abstraction is up to the observer themselves to determine, there is not one universal way to reach that but instead many.

While there are a lot of different aspects to the illness (like seeing my window glow red last night and being positive I heard someone dragging a body), the inability to communicate is more like... Having a thousand things rushing in your head at once, all of them making sense, but nothing coming out right. Another factor is that the emotional side of communication is sometimes way fucking off. Conveying emotions inappropriately, not reading them well, etc.
