But what does this mean for Equestria? Twilight is singing the song, is she using the innate and apparent pony ability in the show to weave a tune or do most tales recounting events with songs also include musical notation? Is she singing the same tune as the actual pony in a true event in Equestria's past, or is she applying written lyrics to a freshly made melody on the fly? Does this mean history books in Equestria just have sections that cut into a few sheets of music?

Yes, and that was the most consistent and best musical episode so far. All the songs were enjoyable and really stick in my head. There was a greater variety of vocals, and each fit their respective songs well. I was originally mad about using Luna and breaking the symmetry with Hearth's Warming Eve of having the mane 6 be characters in the story, but her imposing presence worked too well as a foretelling of doom. It also made sense for Twilight to use a persona Starlight wouldn't recognize in the frame after she realized Twilight was imitating Pinkie.
From an animation standpoint, I wish they had made better use of all four legs rather than directly animating a human-looking tap dance with ponies. Otherwise, this was the best happy song since Smile.
