You can write five pages of sex and not cross into fetish territory if the intent of the writing is to show character progression or a relationship blooming.
It becomes fetish territory when you twist the setting and characters to reach the transformation.

That's the hitch. The only pony that has been shown to do it is either a unicorn with a talent for magic explicitly or an alicorn. It's possible but it'd be reasonable to assume that only high-level magic users could do it.
On the other hand most readers will forgive minor diversions from their headcanons as long as you don't focus on the event itself.

I don't have much to say, anon. I can agree that the thing with Whiplash is dumb, but it could be said that he just never had the time or the interest in checking under Murky's jerkin. Though it does seem stupid that they don't search slaves when they buy them, or that the guy who sold him to Red Eye didn't tell the slaver that Murky is a pegasus. It's a big plot hole that nobody mentions often.
