Are we going to ignore the fact that Starlight Glimmer basically has Dr. Manhattan levels of magic?
>created a fully baked, three layer cake from raw ingredients in 3 seconds
>can capture and contain any pony's special talent
>can make herself fly like a pegasus with only her magic, something no other unicorn has been seen doing
>modified a spell that the greatest wizard of all time couldn't complete
>>
>>27260173
Yes, we know Glim Glam is a Mary Sue of the highest caliber.
>>
>>27260173
Glimmer was a late bloomer but is very gifted in magic. Twilight was the same and is now of Alicorn status. Who wins in a death match?
>>
>>27260215
Glimmer because she was able to outsmart book horse
>>
>>27260225
>whole seasons spent plotting
>ambush tactics
gee, how shocking that she was able to overcome an adversary who wasnt prepared in the least.
>>
Why do all the new villain mares introduced have names that look like the talentless writers just looked up the words "twilight" and "sparkle" in a thesaurus?

>Are we going to ignore the fact that Starlight Glimmer basically has Dr. Manhattan levels of magic?

Yes.

>>27260225
This t'bh. On another note it's nicely ironic that Starlight became so OP after setting out to prove that she could be as skilled at magic as her old friend, while her friend sank into depression from not being as talented as he thought he'd be.

It's also interesting that a pony could inadvertently become so talented while trying to eliminate talent altogether.
>>
>>27260173
She has great potential, but Twilight will limit her. While Friendship is Magic, its clearly not the only magic out there...possibly not even the most powerful, either.
>>
>>27260295
Why hasn't Glimmer been put down by Celestia and Luna yet?
>>
>>27260311
>While Friendship is Magic, its clearly not the only magic out there...possibly not even the most powerful, either.

I think this is what gets to me most about Glimmer's power levels in a series named "Friendship is magic" (actually, Twilight too, a little.)

>Friendship is supposed to be magic
>One person can, by themselves and through isolation, rise above all others beyond even gods, and with much of their life having attempted to stifle comradery within their peers

And it's not even that this is a kid's show, it's just being inconsistent.
>>
>>27260173

>made a cake

Don't lead with that.
>>
>>27260173
I don't even like glimmer. She's kinda ruined the show a little for me but I'm still watching until the end.

Why not? We've never seen any other unicorn do it, not even a princess. She's taking raw materials and reshaping them into something different in a second, something Twilight struggled to do even in Season 3.
>>
Yeah but does she have a big blue dick?
>>
>>27260827
she used the components required and combined them. non magical humans can do that, though not as quickly.

twilight changed one thing into another thing entirely with that whole orange spell. some of them living creatures.
>>
>>27260909
>she used the components required and combined them
Nigga, she took raw materials and made a complete triple layered cake in seconds. That means all the chemical reactions that normally happen when you mix eggs and flour, she baked it, stacked it, layered it, and decorated it in seconds. That takes a fuck ton of coordination. Don't undermine that.
>>
She has been said to be the most powerful villain a lot lately. She is the only one I'm remembering who couldn't be defeated forcefully...
This isn't new news.
>>
>>27260909
>Twilight can transmute living things into other things
>Starlight can perform matter conversion

They're both alchemists.

It might not be blue, but she had to use something to frost that cake ^:)
>>
>>27260951
she's easily forgiven, instantly beloved by the cast, shown to be better at things than other characters who are supposed to be more powerful.

>>27260932
>Most powerful villain

So why wasn't that Nightmare Moon who was a princess fallen into darkness? Or King Sombra who had given himself to dark magic to such a degree his body was practically made from it? Or Discord who is a borderline anthromorphic personification of chaos and disorder?

Why is it some random, socialist, unicorn bint?
>>
Pretty sure if Twilight did even half the amount of practice that Starlight did, a fight between them wouldn't even be a contest, Twilight would destroy her.
>>
>>27260987
>easily forgiven
Many incidents are "easily forgiven", like Rainbow destroying the weather factory and Spike's rampage through ponyville (or Rarity's while possessed), and so on.

Her time shenanigans did no actual damage to the real timeline, andshe made up with the Our Town folk, which was her only lasting issue, honestly.

>Better at things than other characters

She's magically gifted (matching Twilight, who's also matched by Sunset, supposedly), but aside from the cake example (which was more of a gag than anything), she hasn't proven to excel at everything.

She can fly, but she's no Rainbow Dash. She's decent with animals, but she's no Beastmaster like Fluttershy, nor can she design dresses or throw parties like Rarity and Pinkie Pie.

>Most powerful villain

Except she wasn't. She's the "most magically gifted unicorn" that Twilight's ever seen, but Nightmare Moon, Discord, and Tirek (at full power) are still notably stronger.

>>

>instantly beloved by the cast
No she isn't. We just had an episode about Twilight and most of the town not trusting Starlight to make sound decisions. Mary Sue characters are loved by everyone and resolve all their conflicts instantly, whereas Starlight is still a deeply troubled character who often doesn't even trust herself.
>>
>>27260987
She's hardly beloved by the Mane 6 and her redemption is still a work in progress. She doesn't really fit the theme of an extraordinarily adept junior member to just join the team who becomes a romantic wish fulfillment of the author.
>>
So I just took one of them online quizzes for determining if a character is a Mary Sue. Due to most of the questions revolving around sex and relationships, it's a bit of a toss-up how relevant it is for FiM.
*But* according to the results, Starlight is borderline Mary Sue and it says effort should be made to give her more depth that isn't tied to her "tragic life" or she's going to be on the fast track to Sue-hood.

Funny thing about the section that labels her "what a brat" it had a load of questions about her attitude toward others and how others react toward it, one of the frequently occurring answers being "they forgive the behavior or admit they were wrong".

How the hell did we go from anti-SJW episode with a crystal clear reference to Apple's "1984" ad vert to like...the exact same SJW pony still being an SJW and being an overpowered sue that's being a weird bitch all over the place?

Writer change? SJW gonna finally kill pone?

Also if you disagree with my politics because you're a liberal brat, here, read this and feel bad for a couple weeks okay? Donald Trump will be a punishment for your smugness.

http://www.vox.com/2016/4/21/11451378/smug-american-liberalism

Like really, speaking of that exact style of smug...isn't that just Glim? She reeks of it. She's the personification of it. I am genuinely hoping she returns to being a villain - perhaps an episode that teaches little girls they have to let go of friends who are just too crazy to be around?

Run that test for the main characters of my green.
17, 24, 28 and 34.

No Mary Sue in sight.

The bit I always found funniest is that if she had not gone emo she would probably have followed him to the school soon after
>>
>>27260295
no, if you had paid attention during the flashback scenes of the S6 premier you would have noticed that Starlight outperformed Sunburst at every spell he showed her

Sunburst had the booksmarts, Starlight had the natural talent.

Oh fug :DD
At the very least, I'd say there's some concession that Anon is meant to be an audience insert sort of "everyman", so the generic qualifiers lend a little to him being 'literally me'.

And at least it's not another "Anon goes to Equestria and all the ponies fall in love with his hot monkey dick" story.
>>
>>27260173
suelight can self levitate too, and she's used many more advanced spells than starlight, and no one says she's op
>>
>>27262153
Everyone says Twilight is OP, especially after becoming an alicorn.
And now here's a character that can match or better even Twilight in skill despite Twilight being OP.

Either I must be doing something wrong and leaning a little heavily on the whole wish fulfillment aspect of Anon as a character, or you don't have any personal connections with him as an audience surrogate.
>>
>>27260987
The thing is, she couldn't be blasted with harmony shit. She wasn't a crazy abnormal monster with a weakness to some super artifact. She's just a really powerful uncorn wizzurd. Twilight is still way better at magic tho. Glimmer was shocked that she could mimic the shield spell after seeing it once. She said it took her months to learn iirc.

Can you blame anon when at the end of S5 you had the Starlight montage showing her getting along with Twilight and co.?

The writers have been known to be inconsistent for a gag, to quickly establish something, or for other narrative reasons.

This makes me think that >>27260987
isn't actually bait, but is a filthy casual instead, which is worse.
>>
>>27260173
Dr. manhattan could turn the oxygen in front of you into cake without even having the ingredients.
>>
>>27261072
Rainbow destroying the weather factory being ignored was bad writing. Spike and Rarity were in an altered mental state.

The cake is significant because it shows that Glimmer can do something better than someone practicing their whole life without even trying.

She was beating Twilight in the time loop fights. Twilight was already OP as fuck then she became an alicorn, but Glimmer was still somehow ahead.

No she wasn't and she's planned that fight for the entire season she was prepared unlike twi

>>27261133
She's friends with all the Mane 6 (maybe Applejack is mad for Big Mac but I don't think that was too serious).
>>
>>27265258
Yeah.
>>
>>27265258
>>27265245
>>27265222
The reason Glimmer was "beating" her wasn't that Glimmer was better at magic. It's because Glimmer's win condition was a million times easier than Twilight's. She just had to fuck this one thing up.

Glimmer admits Twilight is far better, like
>>27263200
says. The whole reason for the finale is BECAUSE Glimmer knows Twilight is so much better than her at magic. She can't take her in a straight up fight.
