It'll be a compilation, potentially containing everything from originals, remixes, collaborations, etc. The past efforts never came to fruition, so we're trying once again. Basically anything is acceptable. This means complete originals, remixes, collaborations, soundscapes, etc.

Please submit a mastered/unmastered WAV or AIFF. Please upload it to a site that doesn’t compress the audio file (Like Dropbox and Mediafire. NOT Vocaroo), and then share the download link. You can also upload to OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C6319434888276ED%21105. To upload, post your email in the thread or email [email protected], and we'll add you). If you don’t post in the thread, please email [email protected] so we know for sure you’re submitting something.

So lately I've regained my motivation to record and mix my own music. I've had Pro Tools for years now, but I haven't made much use of it in recent years. It's not something I've done in a very long time, so I'd like to hear some feedback on this little 12 bar blues rock thing I threw together in a little over a day. Not sure what I'm gonna turn it into yet, but I'm pretty pleased with what I've got so far and I'd love to hear some constructive criticism on the recording and mixing. Any other tips you might have are welcome as well.

Drum and bass are MIDI placeholders until I start putting in more higher quality stuff. Right, could you clarify whether you're talking about the part from 0:42 to 0:47 or whether you're also including 0:21, 0:54 and 1:20 as well?
If the former: then I'd have to rethink how to do the chorus (because I wanted to do arpeggio for all the "flying high" parts).
If the latter: then I'd have to think how to increase my little box of piano tricks (because I need to make the piano not stand out yet still make it more interesting than simply pounding out chords to the beat).
All of this has to support Dzahlus singing over it all (the midi track of which isn't included in what's posted).

That's what you should do. The 0:21 parts are pretty good, and the rhythm of the piano at 0:31. At 0:54 and 1:20 is when the repetition is, well, repetitive. The melodies right before that are pretty good touches though. Have you heard In A Sentimental Mood, by Ellington and Coltrane? It has one oft-repeated melody. You may want to do something like that. Repeating a catchy melody is better than repeatedly arpeggiating a chord. Make it simple though, as you said you didn't want to bring too much attention to the piano. Maybe a variation of the parts just before 1:20 will do.

You should keep going on this. As for mixing, there's some excess high end coming from the guitars, I think. Adding a LPF and removing some of the ~5kHz range will help. They're also somewhat too loud, overpowering everything else.

Something like that. It's on the right track. Another helpful thing that I sometimes do with lead/rhythm guitars is use one distortion for one and then a different one for the other. That can help keep them from blending together too much and creating a bunch of noise.
The kick could also use a little ~2-3kHz click, but you said they're placeholders.

I'll need to fiddle with the rhythm distortion more then, as that's what I somewhat tried to do. I don't have access to too many plugins for guitar distortion. Guess I'll try relying on using a different amp for the rhythm guitar and refrain from using distortion plugins.

Kept getting its name mixed up with Sentimental Journey.
Catchy melody would be an idea but none immediately spring to mind.
As for 0:54, I've changed it to just the top three note played off-beat rather than an arpeggio. It doesn't change the sound that much so... I can look at changing it further.

Added LPF to all the the lead guitar tracks and adjusted volume levels. I also fiddled with the rhythm and gave it a bit of a cleaner and warmer tone while still keeping the crunch. Headphones are fickle things, the lead sounds so much quieter on them than on my monitors. Maybe it's about time for a new set.
I also added a light reverb to the lead, but I'm not really sure if that was a necessary change. I mostly wanted to hear how it sounded.
Now I just need to expand the structure, maybe write some lyrics and record vocals, and I'll have a song.

As for the melody, I like he concept (particularly the chorus), but, of course, it needs refinement. Also, the verses seem very loose and blues/gospel like. It sorta reminded me of Leonard Cohen. So, Still Going has been going on for a while now, and Anoridan and I have been going back and forth trying to figure it out. Anyway, last I checked, there was talk of potentially splitting it up into two separate songs, a heavy one and a soft one. However, the clock is ticking down fast, and there's not much time left.
