First it follows some uninteresting kid whining about everything he can think of for like 10 episodes.
Then the action starts and at first you're like "cool, the boring opener is over, now we can get onto the real show." But there eva is to disappoint you again. They pretty much repeat the initial fight 9 more times over 10 episodes. It's just some gundam fighting another gundam for 10 minutes every episode with boring kid crying every second minute to make the episode 20 minutes. And the fighting isn't even good fighting, it's like they think about and announce every movement. Like "I need to raise my arm. I AM RAISING MY ARM. Now I need to grab my space lazer. I AM TAKING OUT MY SPACE LAZER." Followed by screaming for like 8 solid minutes while taking out the gun and shooting the bad guy.
Then they do like 10 clip show episodes where they just review what happened. And it's not even clever like some animes realize clip shows are shit so the select certain scenes and do some extra voice over stuff to make it less shit. Eva just seems to show like every 3rd scene or some BS like that.
After that we finally get to the end, which is somehow even more of a let down than everything else. All it is is like 10 or so 5 second gifs playing over and over while they narrate some existential BS over it.
Easily the worst anime I've seen and probably the worst TV show in general that I've ever seen. I'm convinced liking Eva is just a meme. Like people ironically say it's good it hopes of tricking others into watching it.

The deal with Shinji is that he has been rejected since the day her mother died. The reason he's a delusional is because he was raised like that. His father only needs him to ride the EVA pilots and save humanity. Shinji, being the delusional boy he is, just accept because he only cares for people who give him some signs of approval. There's a point in the story where he feels fullfilled because he's killing a lot of angels and stuff. But then it comes the part when he is literally disintegrated and only his consious remains. Here is when the plot starts to become all edgy and psychological, because Shinji in this state starts to meditate about how his life is still shit despite all angel he has killed and how his father only uses him as a weapon, and he lost interest in life to the point he only wants to die.
I don't think it is a bad anime at all, and I just wanted to share my opinion. That's all
