so it would involving tricking Spikes instincts into believing his friendships with The Mane 6 was a physical hordable object and trigger a hormonal response that makes spike advance in age.

Not really, Spike tries to hoard various stuff but ends up grabbing random shit every time, freaking out and binning his hoard.
Someone talks about hoarding something he couldn't steal, spike light bulbs and runs off to his hoard room. Later when they come the check on him hes taller but obviously uncomfortable with twitching hands. He explains he's still being driven to hoard but as the thing he's hoarding is unstealable his bodies just a little confused but offers to show them to explain.
After a little comedy of Spike letting them in but struggling to not be possessive of the room and they find it lined with photographs.
Spike gives his heartwarming speech about you can't steal friendship only be given it and that although there just pictures each one is attached to a memory that's more valuable to him then any gem.
