What we do need is more generic designs. It's one of the benefits of ponies, in that they've all got the same body.
Have maybe 3 basic body forms which get customised for each side, and 2 uniques, so you build up a decent base.
So the cons could have Megatron, Soundwave, Seekers, Rumble-style cassettes, and Battlechargers/ vehicons.
The bots have Optimus, Grimlock, Fairladies (including Jazz, and call the base model autroopers), Lambo Countachs, and Minibots.
By having a number of generic bases that can be customised with heads and colours, you can inflate the ranks while saving resources.
