Dad died fighting in the great Gryphon wars. Got disemboweled by a hen after he stomped one of her chicks to death and lit her house on fire. Never saw it coming, and he died knowing that the Gryphons would survive as a race and the whole war; the deaths, the corruption, destruction and disease was all for nothing. All because Celestia wanted to spice things up with a genocide.
Mom died pretty simply. Parasitic infection. A foot and a half long worm wound its way up her spinal column and into the base of her skull. She collapsed on the floor and had a seizure. She screamed as burning fire arced through her nervous system. She screamed for three and a half long minutes as control of her basic bodily functions were wrested from her control. She only stopped screaming when her back arched and she snapped her own spine. But she still had a minute or two to panic, to be full of sorrow, to be in pain but unable to express it no matter how hard it tried to get out. She had a minute or two to fear that there was nothing beyond death but blackness, and perhaps her children would be forced to see it too soon without her.
Eventually her body couldn't make energy to keep living. The lack of oxygen caused massive cell death. She passed beyond the point of return just as a panicked son finally made his way in from the field where he heard her screaming. He could only try to comfort his little sister as she comprehended the loss of her other parent. It was too bad he had no words to give. He still doesn't.
