The best plot (starlight and sunburst) was the B-plot, so I can half understand if people don't think about that primarily. I was worried about the baby (I imagine most were) but it turned out alright. The biggest mistake people are making is that they assume the show isn't in on the joke of how much of an asshole the baby was. It was pretty clear with how telegraphed it all was ("I don't know what I'd do without this book" *cue baby fucking everything up in an elaborate reflected shot* "ohhhhhh nooooooooo") - it was definitely played for humor.
Maybe that doesn't work on everyone in the same way that some people don't like cringe humor because they project themselves into it and feel shit or something, I don't know.

Truthfully I do. I hated both of those, they and the power of love thing got tiring. Starlight's shit and even McFlurry's problem utilized something unseen in previous bookends. Twilight having to think and/or lecture to get shit done rather than, struggle, struggle, Oh shit five minutes left Elements/Loveshield/Rainbow Ponyan 3 out of nowhere. The opener's antagonists were:
1. The baby
2. The weather
3. Glimmer and Sunburst's social awkwardness
Where was the arc? Glimmer and Sunburst didn't really re-introduce themselves. They talked openly about what they did wrong and the reconciled after the appropriate dialogue.
They solved the weather by having Sunburst walk in and explain what they had to do. They tried researching the answer, but the answer would have been in a book if the baby hadn't been bent on murdering everyone.
So that just leaves us with the baby, who is still at large and clearly needs to go in a cage forcefield.
Aside from the plot not being that interesting, the writing had a lot of problems. They did a lot of things you really don't want to do when writing. There's character driven plots and action driven plots, but this was neither. We saw neither character nor action. Just exposition, a problem which they exposited on so you'd know if was severe (why not have the blizzard trap Glimmer with Sunburst so they have to stay together and talk?), and a solution provided via exposition.
It was really, really bad. This episode was terrible. Even for kids it's not a good episode because there's too much chewing the fat.

By catching people up to date with relatively well thought out exposition and the introduction of a new semi regular cast member, along with a bunch of old semi regulars showing up. Plus it was a slice of life episode, which is what the show is about. And it was funny, relied on a well constructed plot arch instead of a deus ex mcguffin.

At the start glim and sun are awkward and distant, with sun potentially not even remembering her at all
after a few failed attempts tensions rise due to external circumstances and they open up to each other, revealling how flawed they both are and how they still need each other
By the end they're friends who want to stay in touch
