>"he did not understand friendship like you do"
This line confuses me. Starswirl's friendship with Scorpan is what helped him defeat Triek. The Journal of the Two Sisters suggest that the princesses had a very nice relationship. Not even the comics portray him any differently. He seemed to understand friendship just fine. What did Celestia mean in this scene?

that he didn't understand friendship like she does

To get all concise here, Starswirl had friends, Twilight has Pony Friends Forever.

>What did Celestia mean in this scene?
The same thing that Discord meant when he told to Fluttershy "Because if I don't, I'll lose the one friend I ever had?"
>>26785753
She meant "LOL THIS WHOLE EPISODE IS ONE GIANT PLOT HOLE THANKS M.A LARSON!"

Twilight has a greater understanding of friendship than Starswirl did.

My God I am hard as diamonds.

Starswirl had friends, but he didn't understand the power of friendship.
That is he studied mastered every form of magic in his world, but couldn't understand that companionship and understanding could be channeled into literal God-like power. It wasn't something he could measure or understand like other schools of magic, which led to him mistrusting it or dismissing it out of hoof.

That and unlike Twilight and her whole harmony thing, his solution was let somebody else take care of it.
Why the fuck does Twilight like this faggot again?
>>26785753
Plotwist: Celestia is the pony that actually don't understand friendship

>Why the fuck does Twilight like this faggot again?
...Because he's the most renown wizard in history, and former magic teacher/mentor to both demi-Gods who rule over a thousand year empire?
>>26785753
Because Starswirl was a boy and boys are stupid and don't have true frienship like girls do because all men are rapists.

Luckily her and her teacher didn't learn right and wrong from him.

>Luckily her and her teacher didn't learn right and wrong from him.
What made you think she didn't?

Huh, you're right, she does have his solution to problems as a go to response.
Probably something having to do with Starswirl putting more faith in his own magical power and ability than in his friends to accomplish what he could not.or somethingHe raised the sun and moon by himself until he burned out rather than trusting his proteges. He was proud of Luna and Celestia's accomplishments but held their hooves for as long as he could not trusting them to their destinies. He invented time travel spells to visit the future so he could be sure things work out okay despite being able to leave things in capable hooves. In the end he could only ever truly believe in himself.I guess

S3 is garbage.
>>26785753
Officially, Twilight's frinedship with Mane6 is a special one that Starswirl coudn't understand.
Unofficially, it was bad writing and lack of consistency between S3 and S4 finale.
Either way, these are your 2 good answers.

I can't believe that's still around. Why is that still around?
>>26785753
It's how the show is telling girls that they're better at making and having friends than boys are. Starswirl had friends, Sparkie has Elements of Harmony and super powered friends.

Because faggots who are in their 30s still remember it from having MuchMusic in 1998.
