How would you make a more likable love interest for Twilight? Assuming she absolutely HAD to have one and that the movie will inevitably have one for one of

i would use flash. he would be similar in many ways to shining, and she would develop a crush over time. she would then realize that these feelings come from a deep seated desire to have a more personal relationship with her brother, which would confuse and scare her. eventually she would give in to this personally forbidden fruit and make whoopie with flash, unleashing all of her pent up desires. this would become a regular thing, though a solid relationship would likely never form.

The biggest problem with both incarnations of Flash Sentry is that they didn't even try and make him into a character. One's a mishmash of cheesy high school drama tropes, the other's a background decoration.
There's all sorts of ways to create a better love interest for Twi, but it's more in the execution than anything else, and it will take time.
Establish the love interest as an actual character on his own. Make him do something funny, something cool, something touching that actually convinces us that we should be interested in him. And maybe drop a hint that the pairing could be possible. Test those waters.

The Love interest has to be a pony/person who has his own problems, goals, and, of course, things that make him cool and fun for us, the audience.
The best way for it to happen is for there to be NO buildup to his introduction. He just appears onscreen, doing nothing spectacular or important, but the importance is in him being shown to be somebody who is just like everyone else, and "probably unimportant" at first. His connection to Twilight will come slow.
No Chadding (or mary sue-ing on twilights part). He just appears, and he's doing his own thing, and from there, events just lead up to a very gradual build up of a relationship, and the connection between them is consciously realized much, much after it already happened.
It's the exact same thing happens with making friends.
No love at first sight high school BS, make them legit spend some decent time together on non-romantic terms, and see how happy they are and how much fun they have when they're together, before they both realize they like each other.
