>It must have been at least ten hours later when you work up.
>You were sitting rather uncomfortably in a chair.
>Still armored and with the book in your hooves.
>You rise from the seat and start to stretch your legs and wings.
>After putting the book back, you left the library.
>You know what you have to do.
>But, first you need to stop by the camp.
>As you fly over to the tents, it looks like the Major had already started to have your men assist in last minute fortifications.
>You heard from some of the soldiers that the Major is overseeing the fortification personally.
>And most of the Old Guard is still in the camp.
>Good.
>You head over to where the pegasi are at.
>They stand to attention as you approach.
“Alright, I need the twelve best fighters among you to come with me.”
>There’s a bit of discussion, but soon twelve pegasi step forward.
“If anything goes wrong, our only option will be to fly away. If I give the order, then retreat.”
>They nod in acknowledgement.
>Now you just need two things.
>After assembling one of them and searching trash bins for the other, you stood on the eastern bridge.
>Before you lay no man’s land.
>On the far end you can see minotaurs resting on barricades.
>As you and your men flew beyond your own fortifications, you heard confused questions from the ponies manning them.
>You landed in no man’s land, and started walking towards the enemy.
>Here goes nothing.
>>
>>26729051
>As you approach, you wave the red flag that you made. For the minotaurs it signifies that you’re not here for open battle.
>They lower their weapons when you near them.
>And clear a path to their leaders command tent.
>You pass through the camp, and the entire way armed enemies tower over you.
>But you do your best not to appear intimidated.
>If things go south, then you’ll have barely a second to fly out of reach before they attack.
>In front of a large and ornate tent you see what looks like their general sitting in front of it.
>As he stands, he looks to be at least a foot taller than any of the others.
>A huge albino bull, clad in heavy steel armor and wielding a large warhammer- the head almost as large as your entire body.
>He begins laughing as you approach.
>”Here with terms of surrender tiny one? I, General White Rage, will accept it.”
>Courage Flurry.
>You spit on the ground beneath his feet, and levitate the bucket you brought over to his tent.
>Then you fling its contents at it, showering the tent with rotting fish.
“On the contrary, like Bronze Star almost two millennia ago, as leader of the opposing army I demand trial by combat to decide the fate of the war.”
>”HAHAHAHAHA!”
>The army around you starts joining in on his laugh.
>”Ha, you think that arcane customs from countless generations ago still apply? I haven’t laughed that much for a long time pony, thank you.”
>This is bad, you think as the crowd continues to laugh.
>”ENOUGH!” You hear a single voice form the crowd yell.
>An elderly looking minotaur comes forward leaning on a cane, is beard almost scraping the ground as he walks.
>He then whacks the general in the head with it.
>The entire crowd is silent at this point.
>>
>>26729059
>”Fool, how dare you dishonor your ancestors! That rite was never overturned, just never put into practice for two thousand years. She has spat on your ground, and assaulted your tent with rotting fish carcasses. It is your duty as war leader to oblige, or else you will face the wrath of the gods in this life and the next.”
>”It can’t possibly still be in our laws. Check.”
>The old one hobbles over to a tent, and retrieves a huge book bound with iron rings.
>He opens it and starts reading.
>”Come here boy.”
>The general approaches and starts looking at what the other is pointing at.
>A look of shock is seen on his face.
>The general falls to his knee.
>”Forgive me sage, I will oblige the rite.”
>He rises and turns to you.
>”Single combat, leader to leader, for the fate of the war.”
>He hefts his enormous hammer over his shoulder.
>You really didn’t think this part through.
>You don’t even have a weapon.
>”Clear a space for an arena!”
>As the minotaurs shuffle to oblige the order, you turn to your men and whisper.
“What do I do?”
>They look visibly nervous at your question.
“Come on ponies, I need help here!”
>”There’s not much we can do in a just a few moments.” One speaks up.
>”Yeah, were do we start?” Another asks the others.
>”Stick ‘em with the pointy end. “ A third says as he offers you a spear.
>You grab it with magic and deadpan back to him.
“You don’t say.”
>You hear the general’s voice boom over to you.
>”This way pony, our space has been cleared.”
>He leads you past a few tents, to where a large circular area is waiting for you.
>It must be a hundred feet in diameter.
>A few weapon racks line the circumference of the arena.
>You take your place in it as the general heads to the other side.
>You really didn’t think this through.
>>
>>26729065
>The old sage is to the side, and he begins speaking.
>”As a leader of your people, you have initiated the age old ritual of combat. Should you emerge victorious, then the minotaur people will be obligated to award you with a ten year truce. However, should you fall in battle then your city will be forfeited and the war will continue. The gods value actions, not words. So let you begin when ready.”
>You eye the spear you’ve been given, getting used to its dimensions.
>You start to spin it around you in a display to get more accustomed to holding it with your magic.
>As you end, it’s in the air to your right, facing your opponent.
>The albino bull brings his hammer down to the earth, and you can feel the impact even standing at least fifty feet away.
>He then bashes his left fist onto his chest piece.
>You start to charge up as much magical energy as possible.
>As you reach the peak of what you contain, the bull starts to charge.
>You unleash a blast of pure magical energy that impacts him square in the chest.
>And had no visible effect on him.
>You wait as he storms towards you.
>At the last second you roll to the left, going just under the hammer that was swinging.
>You sent the spear the other way around him, and you reunite with it behind the bull.
>Using all of your remaining magical power, you thrust the spear into his back.
>But it harmlessly impacts and deflects off of his armor.
>He turns and towers over you.
>Reaching down he grabs the front end of the spear, and uses your magical grip to snap it in half.
>He throws the part he broke off over to the side.
>>
>>26729072
>You jump backwards as he brings his hammer down in the space that you were just occupying.
>He then starts to charge.
>You narrowly avoid getting hit by it as you fly up, just out of reach.
>Coming back to the ground, you watched as his charge continues on another twenty feet.
>And he turns to face you once more.
>You count five weapon racks around the arena.
>Focusing on the one directly behind him, you levitate the weapons from the rack.
>And send them flying for his back.
>But they harmlessly deflect off of his armor.
>You start doing the same with the next.
>He starts slowly approaching you, allowing you to pepper him with useless attacks.
>The ground is littered with swords and spears that impacted him dealing no damage.
>He begins to laugh as he walks towards you.
>You start back peddling.
>You lift an empty weapon rack to his right, and sent it hurdling towards him.
>He noticed it in his periphery vision too late.
>And he went tumbling to the ground as the wooden object broke upon him.
>But he soon stood up.
>You launched another at him, but he anticipated it.
>Just before impact, he swung at it with his war hammer- shattering it before it could hit him.
>He cracks his neck to the right and left before continuing.
>You have an idea.
>You launch another weapon rack at him that he breaks.
>And a fourth.
>All that remains is the one directly behind him.
>And you throw that one at him as well.
>>
>>26729080
>The minotaur general turns to strike it down.
>All this time you still had the broken spear floating next to you.
>You grab what’s left of it with your right hoof.
>And start flying towards your opponent.
>His back is turned as he strikes down the wooden object being sent towards him.
>Just before you reach him, he turns back to face you.
>But he didn’t have time to react.
>You were feet away from his un-helmeted head.
>Tightening your grip on the wooden shaft, you plunge the broken end into his neck.
>Your hooves impact his chest as your charge is broken.
>He’s still standing there.
>A wooden stake through his throat.
>He blinks once or twice, unable to speak.
>Then he falls backwards, leaving you standing atop your defeated foe.
>The crowd is completely silent.
>Some of the minotaurs look at you in shock.
>Others have their hands ready on their weapons.
>Your men are looking quite nervous as well.
>Looking down, you see blood flowing from the general’s wound.
>Some of it from the impact had spattered onto you.
>the silence is broken as the old sage starts to speak.
>”Today, the gods have favored you young one. Our law is clear, there will be no war between our people for ten years from this day.”
“Just like that?”
>”Just like that, our forces will be gone from your lands immediately.” He then talks to the others. “Break camp, we are going home.”
>There’s a lot of grumbling from the minotaurs as they’ve been denied a chance at battle, but they do start to filter away from the arena.
>Your horn glows as you retrieve both halves of the spear you started the combat with.
>Walking over to your men, you offer the halves back to its owner.
“Stuck ‘em with the pointy end.”
>”That you did. You can keep them.”
>Taking flight, you and your men left the now neutral camp.
>You had your men go off to brief the Major on the situation, as you went back to your command tent to rest.
>You kept the spear halves as mementoes.
>>
The wall hurts. Come on Flurry, just remember WWAD
>>
>>26729089
>You were in your command tent, cleaning the blood from your coat.
>Things were still troubling, as tomorrow the Saddle Arabian armada would arrive.
>It’s unclear if they’ll still attack the city without the minotaurs there to assist them.
>They could still shell the city from a far.
>You need a way to convince the enemy not to fight.
>But how?
>Your thoughts are interrupted as Major Arrow stormed into your tent.
“Afternoon Major.”
>”Your highness, you could have gotten killed!”
“But I didn’t.”
>”We can’t afford to take such risks at this time.”
“Would you have preferred to be attacked from two fronts as the minotaurs and Saddle Arabians flanked the city?”
>”Ma’am, you shouldn’t have taken action without consulting-.”
“ENOUGH- I am the leader of this army, and I took action to prevent battle. You would never use that tone when speaking to the Field Marshal, and I expect you never to use it again while speaking to me. Is that understood Major?”
>You emphasize his rank.
>”Yes Ma’am.” He says, being put back into place.
“Now, while you were wasting time leaving the oversight of the cities fortifications to come complain, I was constructing a plan to circumvent the coming battle entirely.”
>The Major stands at attention to receive orders.
“I want our men to work with the city militia and any civilian volunteers. The need to make scale models of our cannons, it doesn’t matter out of what. All that matters is that from a spyglass they look real. By dawn I want at least a thousand of them lining the south side of the island, the bridges, and the banks of the bay across each side of the river. When the enemy fleet arrives, assuming they don’t flee immediately, I’ll send a flyer with an ultimatum demanding they retreat now or be utterly destroyed.”
>He remains standing.
“Go on then, dismissed.”
>>
>>26729096
>You didn’t like putting him in his place, but you can’t allow your authority to be circumvented.
>If the chains of command fall apart, then the entire military will fall to chaos.
>While thinking of how to word your letter, you went into the city.
>You were pleased to see ponies scrambling to construct and paint wooded cannons.
>Eventually you found a book shop containing what you needed.
>The First War of the Saddle Arabian Coast
>And
>The Second War of the Saddle Arabian Coast
>With the two books you purchased in hoof, you returned to your tent and started composing your ultimatum.
>You struggled to find the perfect blend of formality, truth, and exaggeration necessary to make them turn and run.
>The first draft wouldn’t frighten a single enemy.
>And the second was obviously a lie.
>The third was too specific at naming numbers.
>You worked well into the night.
>After many discarded pages, you ultimately settled on:
>>
>>26729108
To the leader of the Saddle Arabian fleet,

By now you are aware of two things. One, that your allies have quit the field. And two, that the cities defenses are far more considerable than you had thought. The reasoning as to why your allies have fled back to their homeland, quitting the war entirely, is that I have killed General White Rage in single combat. The reasoning for the latter observation is because this nation’s military has rallied, and many of the nation’s two million combat veterans have returned to active duty. If you attack, then you will find over half of this city’s population rising against you, in addition to the hundred thousand battle hardened soldiers leading the defense.

Simply put, you will be annihilated. I would use the phrase decimated, but that implies you would lose one of every ten men rather than the inverse. If you still feel like attacking Manehattan, then you should note the two books I’ve sent to you. Histories of the First and Second Wars of the Saddle Arabian Coast, a matter you should be very familiar with. Take note of the individual leading the wars against you, Field Marshal Anonymous. Supposedly, he individually killed more of you than died in the last three centuries of any causes combined. While he is busy overseeing the entire war effort, he has put me in charge of this front. That man raised me as a daughter, and taught me everything he knows. If you still feel like attacking then you are certainly welcomed to break upon this city. But if you have any shred of sanity then you will turn back. Whether you and your men survive to see another sunrise is in your hooves.

-Princess Flurry Heart, Vice-Commander of the Equestrian Armed Forces

>>26729117
>With the letter finished, you heated wax and sealed it up.
>Then pressing your seal into the drying quickly hardening wax.
>You have scouts further down the coast that will notify you when the fleet will be arriving on the horizon.
>So you tried to rest as much as possible before they arrived.
>If they call your bluff there will be a tough fight ahead of you.
>This was the first time in four days that you were able to remove your armor.
>And it felt glorious.
>…
>In the morning you washed off yourself and your armor.
>And then went for breakfast.
>You sat in your tent contemplating yesterday’s events over tea.
>You had killed somebody… with your own two hooves.
>It was so much more personal than just giving an order.
>The adrenaline pumping through you, the fear of losing, the rush of victory.
>It was surreal to say the least.
>You had ended another sentient creature’s life.
>All of those potential memories and actions have been prematurely ended.
>Granted, many of those immediate actions would have been to kill who knows how many ponies.
>You don’t like killing, but you suppose that if done for the right reasons then it’s necessary if not justified.
>As you were finishing breakfast, a runner asked for permission to enter.
“Of course.”
>”Ma’am, the enemy fleet has been sighted; they should be on the horizon within the hour.”
“Thank you.”
>With that you headed to your forward observation area.
>>
>>26729126
>You flew to the top of one of the skyscrapers on the southern tip of the island.
>There, many of your officers, as well as city militia leaders were present.
>You watched and waited.
>There was some grim idle chatter that you stayed out of.
>It was a cloudy day, but sight lines remained clear across the horizon.
>You scanned with a pair of binoculars every minute or so.
>Their sails will pop over the horizon soon enough.
>You looked towards the defenses.
>On the island, four hundred mock cannons lined the southern tip of the island.
>Each of the bridges leading to either side of the bay had two hundred.
>And the coast lines on each side had another two hundred.
>Each of the fake artillery pieces was manned, and there were army and militia formations behind the guns.
>Then you saw the first sail.
>And the next one.
>And the armada.
>You started counting.
>Five dozen war galleys, each with two to four forward facing guns.
>Twelve galleons, you don’t have a clear view, but with maybe thirty-two guns each.
>And a massive ship of the line, you’d guess it has at least a hundred and twenty guns, and on its deck is a large mortar.
>Presumably that’s the flagship.
>The fleet has stopped, most likely to take stock of the situation.
>You turn to your pegasi courier and give him the box containing your letter and the two books.
“Take this package to the flagship over there, the big one, drop it off at the captains hooves, then fly back.”
>He nods and starts flying.
>You watch as he soars over the bay, becoming a tiny dot in the distance.
>He looks like he’s reached the ship.
>Now he’s coming back.
>As he approaches, you see that the package was delivered.
>Nothing to do now but wait.
>>
>>26729137
>…
>The armada is just sitting there.
>The admiral will have had plenty of time to read the letter by now.
>He’s judging the situation, wondering if you’ve bluffed.
>Which you have.
>There can’t be more than twenty thousand enemies ready to land, but they wouldn’t have to land.
>They could just shell the city until nothing but rubble is left.
>But based off of the sheer size, most of the enemy fleet must be here right now.
>Would they sacrifice losing that much if it isn’t a bluff?
>They’re still waiting well out of cannon range.
>Your forces are locked in a staring match, but who will blink first?
>You see movement.
>The fleet starts to lurch.
>But will they turn or head forward?
>They’re moving…
>And…
>Turning.
>Your army watched in silence as the enemy fleet disappeared over the horizon.
>You had ordered them to stay silent if they turned back.
>Can’t have any cheering tip them off.
>The celebrations came later that night.
>Well after scouts confirmed that the fleet was heading back south.
>But you had the scouts follow for at least a week, and you left the fake guns standing in the field.
>Just in case.
>That night, you once again skipped out on partaking in the festivities.
>Instead you sat in your tent, reflecting.
>You had stopped two armies and an armada, all without losing single pony.
>But this streak can’t last forever.
>>
>>26729149
>As fireworks were going off outside and cheering was persisting through the night, you wondered on your next move.
>Head south to relieve General Lancer with the Saddle Arabians, or see if Admiral Brairheart has rebuilt enough of the air fleet to retake Cloudsdale?
>Or head back north, and hope Anon will have woken up by the time you get there?
>Is this what it’s like to be a general?
>Never able to enjoy a victory, because you need to plan for the next.
>Anyway, you would have received word from the Admiral if the air fleet was ready.
>And each of the fronts appears to be at a stalemate.
>But Brigadier Offense is massing troops to hit the Saddle Arabians further to the south.
>If you take your own fresh army to Baltimare, then their entire front could collapse.
>With volunteers from Manehattan bolstering your force, you could have at least a hundred thousand men to relieve the front.
>They’ve managed to keep the enemy on the outskirts of the city.
>So if you split your force, letting the Manehattan soldiers march to the east while your force from the Crystal Empire takes the west, you could encircle the enemy besieging Baltimare.
>You’re two weeks march from there though.
>But first you need troops from this city to join up.
>Give yourself two weeks to recruit and train, then another two to get there and you might have a plan.
>You start writing letters to General Lancer and Brigadier Offense outlining the idea.
>You’ve proposed that if Lancer can hold the city for just one more month, then you and Offense can pincer the occupied territory.
>Make them be the ones fighting on multiple fronts for a change.
>You also included news of Anon’s status and your victories.
>Politely you suggested that you be placed in command of the military while Anon is out.
>It will increase popular opinion even more.
>After all, a Princess of Equestria leading the fight is more sympathetic than a General.

>Besides, you’ve seen how the commanders can squabble.
>You’ve actually amazed yourself in the past days.
>You’ve managed to prove proficiency leading both on and off of the field.
>Clearly someone taught you right.
>Thanks Uncle.
>Your thoughts drift north.
>He’s still just lying there in that hospital room.
>No pony aside from his nurse is probably even keeping him company.
>Meanwhile you’re out here doing what he should be.
>You doubt that this would be how he saw his ‘little soldier’ going off to war.
>But life just happens that way you suppose.
>Twenty five years ago no pony imagined the coming decades of conflict.
>Twenty years ago your Dad didn’t imagine he would never see you again.
>Fifteen years ago Auntie Twilight didn’t imagine she would disappear while looking for him.
>Ten years ago not a soul would have imagined the other Princesses descent into madness.
>A few weeks ago you would never have imagined you would have to fight your own mother and take her throne.
>But that’s just how things turned out.
>That night you planned for the coming days.
>You would give speeches around the city asking for old veterans to return and for new recruits to sign up.
>Manehattan is a huge city, and finding fresh blood shouldn’t be an issue after the events of the past few days.
>The city is also a great location to make sure that supply lines to the Saddle Arabian front remain moving.
>But when you get down there, you won’t be able to cheat the enemy like you have your last three foes.
>It’ll be frontline warfare.
>You can only hope that you’ll be as proficient leading a straight fight.

>Recruitment started the next day.
>Almost all of the city militia joined up.
>Your speeches were well received as well.
>Days started to bleed together.
>Manehattan was in a buzz for the two weeks.
>Weapons and armor were being made, and the local soldiers were busy training and enjoying time with their families before being sent off.
>The camp had gotten considerably larger.
>Each day more ponies joined up.
>Thankfully you were able to keep them all supplied.
>Aside from Canterlot itself, the nation is firmly in support of the military.
>You got word back from the other commanders; they had agreed with your proposals.
>Half of Baltimare is little more than ruins at his point, but Lancer will hold it.
>The enemy is constantly pushing, but as they make gains in one area, they lose in another.
>Those gains and losses are often single city blocks.
>The fighting is brutal.
>Although the enemies vastly outnumber the defenders, the narrow streets are making numerical superiority worthless.
>At least most of the civilians were evacuated long before the fighting started.
>On the other front, trenches have been formed in the clouds.
>Waves of pegasi and griffons are being thrown at the other’s defenses.
>It’s contained the enemy to Cloudsdale, but many lives are being lost.
>If you can’t end the stalemates soon, then an entire generation might be claimed by the conflict.
>The night before you set out for the front, you got final estimates of the men at your command.
>In addition to the Old Guard and forces from the Crystal Empire, almost a hundred thousand locals joined up.
>You were leading the largest active army currently deployed by Equestria.
>>
>>26739173
>At least it was before you split it up.
>On the second day of the march, it came time to split the troops.
>The men from Manehattan were sent directly south along the coast.
>More or less a straight shot down to Baltimare, but the terrain would slow them slightly
>Your route to the west was almost twice as long, so to arrive on schedule you had to take the roads.
>By heading a bit further into the Equestrian heartland you were able to march along clear highways the entire way.
>However, the route would take you relatively close to Canterlot.
>…
>A few days later you were reading a report in your command tent.
>Matters of espionage.
>Apparently under the sands of Saddle Arabia a new energy has been harnessed.
>They’ve found abundant deposits of a strange mineral.
>Large bright purple crystals, that when finely ground can be used to imitate pure magical energy.
>Not to dissimilar from how Equestria harnesses magic to power weapons of war.
>They call it Sahar sand, and they have been testing its potential usage to copy Equestrian airships.
>An airship needs three specially trained unicorns to properly operate.
>One helps to counteract gravity so the armored dirigible can actually be lifted off of the ground. This unicorn also controls the altitude of the ship.
>A second provides thrust and brakes to move the ship forward and back.
>The last one deals with maneuvering to the left or right.
>A unicorn for the X, Y, and Z axis.
>However the Saddle Arabians have developed a single engine, powered by the Sahar sand, that can do all three of those jobs, and with none of the training.
>And the first batch of them is being sent to the front.
>With Equestria’s air fleet being reconstructed and most of the trained pegasi fighting the griffons, the enemy could easily take air superiority.
>And they should be arriving right around the time your forces attack.
>>
>>26739179
>Your contemplations on how to deal with the enemy aircraft was interrupted as the Major burst into your tent.
>”Ma’am, were under attack!”
>You then heard explosions nearby.
“By who?”
>”The Loyalists have set up artillery encampments to the west; they’re shelling the camp with magical cannons.”
“Have the main body of the army scatter away from the camp. I’ll take half of the Old Guard to storm the southernmost encampment; you take the other half and start from the north. We’ll regroup at the center.”
>”Understood.”
>He rushes out of the tent while you put your armor on.
>As you leave the tent, you see a few officers waiting for your orders.
>The area is lightly forested on each side of the road, so you tell them to wait while you fly upwards to get a better view of the enemy.
>Although the sun had set hours ago, the bright magical lights tell you what you need.
>You can make out four- no, make that five artillery nests.
>Each one periodically shoots out three or four different colored bolts high into the sky, arcing down onto your camp.
>Going back down to the ground you give your orders.
“I’ll take the pegasi to rush the south guns, approach the second with the ground forces.”
>They go off to divide the men as you fly towards the pegasi members of the Old Guard.
>You only have a hundred or so fliers at your disposal.
>It’s a risk, but the enemy can’t have more than a thousand ponies total.
>They wouldn’t leave Canterlot without the lion’s share of their men to defend it.
>You then take flight with your force, coasting low, just over the tree line.
>>
>>26739190
>As you fly towards the beacons shooting into the sky, you realize something.
>If you had the army march wide, then many more of your men would have been caught in the initial bombardment.
>But because they camped deep, alongside the road, the enemy couldn’t target large groupings.
>A final barrage goes up as you near the encampment.
>Four magic cannons, pointed to the skies.
>Each of them has a unicorn firing into them, and two earth ponies to deal with removing and reloading amplifying crystals.
>Surrounding the guns are two dozen or so assorted ponies.
>But they expected attack from the ground, and your men quickly swarmed the defenders.
>You fired a few magic bolts down before the impact.
>Arrows flied past you, and pegasi charged down with spears.
>Half of them fell, and the rest broke almost immediately, fleeing to the north and west.
>You landed in the artillery encampment, the men continued to circle overhead waiting for orders.
>But you just stood there, looking at the bodies.
>These were Equestrians.
>Your people.
>And you ended them.
>You’re fighting this war so the opposite happens, not to send more of them to their deaths.
>No.
>Stop thinking like this.
>They attacked your camp, killing how many of your men?
>You weren’t sure how long you were thinking, but a shout brought you back into the now.
>”MA’AM, LOOK OUT!”
>You look up and to the north.
>Just in time to see a large bolt of red magical fire, maybe thirty feet away and rocketing towards you.

I know m8, I know.

That being said, once the story is over feel free to use whatever you want from it. I want to avoid spoilers, but if it reaches an epilogue, then for better or worse the wars will have ended. (Depending on how things end up, there might be four acts rather than the planned three)

>You sat on your hospital bed, being briefed by Sergeant Thunder.
>But you were numb for most of it.
>Everything went in one ear and out the other once you heard the news.
>Flurry is dead.
>You ended up just wandering the streets of the city.
>Eventually you found yourself in the higher levels of the tower, overlooking the Crystal Empire below.
>You had your personal effects sent up to you, and you started going through them.
>The letter to be given to her once you died will go unread.
>You never expected to outlive her.
>Nobody should outlive their child.
>She wasn’t technically, but family doesn’t end at blood.
>In anger you threw your memoirs against the wall.
>What’s even the point in writing them anymore?
>You then got your cigar box of pictures out.
>She was so happy, so pure.
>And you had to ruin it by letting her go off to war.
>You spent hours looking through each and every picture you have of her.
>The sun had set by the time you finished.
>Finally you grabbed your lockbox.
>After entering in the three letters you stare down at the contents.
>Everything you had in this world was now gone.
>You set down the box, and headed out on to the balcony.
>You looked down at the distant streets, illuminated by hundreds of lights.
>Jump.
>Just get it over with.
>What else do you have to go on for?
>You started to climb over the railing.
>But then you stopped.
>There is still one thing you have left.
>Vengence.
>>
>>26749353
>You started heading down the endless stairs of the spire.
>Eventually you reached the bottom.
>And you headed for the train station.
>It was at least midnight, but the train should still be there over night.
>You boarded it and started looking for the conductor.
>You found him sleeping in a cabin with a newspaper in his hooves.
>Grabbing him by the neck, you force him to stand.
>”Wha- what?”
“Start the train, we’re heading south.”
>”Who do you think you-“
“Who do YOU think I am?”
>”Alright sir.” The pony fearfully utters before shuffling off.
>The train soon departed.
>…
>The next afternoon you arrived.
>You’re fifty miles north of Canterlot, and you should be at Admiral Brairheart’s command setup.
>Seeing as there is an army camped out next to the train station, you’d assume to find him at the command tent.
>Some of the soldiers led you to the Admiral.
>He was in his tent reading industrial reports.
>”Sir!” He says as he stands to attention. “You’ll be pleased to know that we’ve another army ready to send south to the Saddle Arabian front.”
“How many?”
>”Fifty thousand.”
“Good, I’ll be taking command. The other fronts can hold for now, we’re taking Canterlot.”
>”But Sir, we’ve no artillery. Hundreds would die.”
“Thousands.”
>”If this is about the Princess-“
“This is about ending the war! I won’t stand idly by as they sit in that city and continue to plot against us. But yes, with Flurry… gone, we need to strike now or else it will be all of our heads on pikes as traitors.”

>The army marched the following morning. At noon on the third day you arrived on the outskirts of Canterlot.
>The men spent a few hours constructing siege ladders.
>At least the direction you were coming from wasn’t on the cliff side of the city.
>Just a two hundred yard dash from tree line to the walls.
>Just two hundred yards to avoid cannon fire.
>Your army now stood at the ready, waiting for your word.
>They expect a speech.
>You’ll oblige them.
>You stood pacing in front of the center ranks.
“Don’t die with a clean sword! I want to see blood! I want to bathe in their blood! I want to bathe in their blood for a week! Now, KILL THEM ALL!”
>War cries echoed as you led the charge.
>Thousands of men coming from the forest to take the city.
>The defenders were quick to fire.
>You watched as more than a dozen cannons fired into your force.
>None impacted near you, but you hear screams of pain and death to each side.
>Unicorns then started to fire magic bolts, and other ponies launched arrows at the oncoming army.
>Countless bolts impacted you harmlessly, and arrows whizzed by your head.
>Another round of cannon fire hit your force, one of them landing a few yards away.
>That’s the last round they’ll get.
>The men atop the walls continued to fire down, but there were too many attackers.
>As you reached the walls, you looked down them as dozens of ladders were being raised.
>You went to the nearest one and started to climb.
>A few ponies got up first, and your area was cleared.
>You draw your sword and start heading north for the gate.
>On the walls alone you must have cut down three dozen royal guards and royalist soldiers.
>But you stood atop the gatehouse.
>In the streets below, ponies had formed ranks with spears to keep out any attack.
>But as you twisted the winch to raise the portcullis, your own forces charged forth.
>>
>>26749378
>They can handle the defenders; you have another goal in mind.
>You continue along the walls, ordering any of your men that you pass to join you.
>There were maybe two dozen trailing behind you as you exterminated any ponies in front of you.
>You had gone around a third of the wall’s circumference, but your goal was in sight.
>The royal palace.
>Continuing along the wall, you soon reached the access doors.
>They had attempted to barricade them, but they hadn’t enough time.
>With a swift kick, the doors slam open.
>You slaughter your way through the royal guards, and eventually reach the throne room.
>Your men were ready.
>Throwing open the doors; you view Celestia sitting in her throne on the far end, Luna standing beside her.
>You start walking towards them.
>Celestia starts charging up power as her horn starts glowing.
>As you got halfway to the throne, she unleashed it.
>A bright, near blinding light flooded towards you.
>As it dies down, you see that the men behind you have… disintegrated.
>Their weapons and armor lying around ash piles.
>And Celestia just sat there, dumbfounded that you survived the onslaught.
>You reached down and grabbed you knife.
>You threw it and watched as it danced in the air before landing firmly between Luna’s eyes, giving her a second horn.
>Celestia sat in silence.
>You calmly walked towards the throne, locking eyes with the monarch.
>As you climbed the steps up to her, you said nothing.
>You only swung your sword.
>One clean cut, going through her neck and her flowing mane.
>>
>>26749389
>Soon after you stood in a tower, looking down at the city below.
>The last of the royalists have been killed, and now your surviving men and the city’s population looked up at you.
>They don’t know about their monarchs yet.
>You start to address them.
“My enemies are many. My equals are none.”
>The scattered murmurs in the crowd have ended.
“In the shade of mountain crags, they said Griffonstone could never be conquered… In the land of sultans and kings, they said Saddle Arabia could never be humbled... In the realm of forests and snow, they said Yakyakistan could never be tamed.”
>You let the words set in.
“Now they say nothing!”
>It echoes throughout the city below.
“They fear me, like a force of nature- a dealer in thunder and death.”
>You watch as the crowd awaits your continuation.
“I say, I am Anonymous! I am Emperor!”
>You raise your left hand, your fist clenching a clump of hair.
>Hanging below it is Celestia’s head.
>You hear the crowd’s gasps as you throw it down to the ground below.
>-
>And then you wake up.
>Your eyes shoot open, and your whole body aches.
>There is a tube down your throat.
>Needles in each of your arms, and diodes hooked up to your chest.
>And the steady beeping of medical machinery remains constant.
>You reach up to remove the tubes from your mouth.
>Gasping for air once you’re free of them.
>You then remove the two needles from your right arm before getting the two in your left.
>You feel a large bandage over your central chest.
>As you pull off the diodes, the machines give out a flat line beep.
>And a pair of ponies rush into the room.
>>
>>26749400
>You sit up on your bed and start to stretch your arm and torso.
“How long was I out?”
>”No no no, you need to lie back down.” A crystal pony urges you.
>From her appearance and hat, you’d gather that she’s your nurse.
>”Just over seven weeks, Sir.” Sergeant Thunder answers you.
“Enough fussing, I’m fine.”
>You get onto your feet, but lose your balance.
>But you caught yourself on your bedframe.
>”You are most certainly not ‘fine’ you’ve been in a coma for weeks!” The nurse pleads.
“I’ve been through worse, where are my clothes?”
>You notice your officer’s cap resting on one of the IV’s.
>While starting to stumble over to the room’s closet, you soon find your legs once more.
“Oh that’s just great.”
>You take your jacket off of the rack.
>The blood has set in and stained it.
>Thankfully someone has put a pair of green fatigues in the closet.
>You grab the clothes and head over to the bed.
>The nurse has stopped trying to get you to lie back down at least.
>While you sit on the side of the bed, you toss your hospital gown off.
>After you finish dressing the lower half of your body and lace your boots, you turn to ask the nurse:
“Is it okay to take this off?”
>While pointing towards your bandage
>She nods.
>Underneath the bandage is a scar, maybe an inch in length.
>You can still see the line where you were stitched back up.
>Cadence really did a number on you, enough to put you out for seven weeks.
>As you start pulling a white t-shirt over your head, you turn to the Sergeant.
“What happened with Cadence, is Flurry alright?”
>”Cadence was captured and is currently imprisoned in the tower. Princess Heart is… alright.”
“She went to lead the army, didn’t she?”
>”How did you know?”
“Because I know that she wouldn’t just sit here for almost two months.”
>>
>>26749421
>As you button the long sleeved top of the fatigues, you stuff your cap under your arm. You then rise and start to leave the room.
“Come on, you can brief me over tea.”
>As you walk through the city, your thoughts go towards your coma induced power trip of a dream.
>Flurry is okay, and that’s what matters.
>But you remember how you felt as you watched the yaks being fire bombed.
>You reveled in the destruction.
>A feeling you had never been experienced before.
>But the dream has helped to cement your mentality.
>You are fighting to preserve the nation, not to fulfill some delusion of grandeur.
>You fight because it is your duty, not because it brings you pleasure.
>As you reached a café, you sat at a table and ordered while the Sergeant brought you up to speed.
>…
>Clever way of stopping the yaks, you wouldn’t have expected them to reform after the bombing.
>…
>She could have gotten herself killed against the minotaur, but beating one in single combat is no easy feat.
>…
>Brilliant means of dealing with the Saddle Arabian fleet. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
>…
>You’re glad that she managed to keep the other generals from squabbling while you were out.
>…
>Interesting plan of attack, not too dissimilar to some of your early ideas on facing the southern front.
>…
>”And the armies will converge in seven days. We’ve just gotten word back that her force was ambushed by forces from Canterlot. She led a counter attack and took out the enemy artillery quickly before more damage could be done. Casualties totaled under a hundred.”
“Tell me more of these enemy airships.”
>>
>>26749430
>”They found some type of fuel source that lets them copy our own airships, but without the need for unicorns to operate them. They look like identical copies of our own, but it will be impossible to judge their performance until we encounter them on the field. They’ve sent at least eight of them to the front, and they should be arriving just as the counter offensive begins.”
“Worrying… and last I knew we wouldn’t have any of our own rebuilt until autumn, correct?”
>”Affirmative Sir.”
>It’s a lot of information to take in.
>Flurry has performed excellently in the past weeks.
>She has what has been rusting in your mind.
>Creativity.
>She has a spark that has long since dimmed in you.
>You would have set in to face weeks of urban warfare in Manehattan, but she thought of a way to make sure that not one pony died.
>Another front had been closed, but you were still at a stalemate with the two enemies that posed the greatest threats to Equestria.
>And one of them is about to have air superiority.
>But you might have something that can help with that.
“When does the next train leave?”
>”The day after tomorrow Sir.”
>You should have just enough time.
“Prepare any pegasi that remain here to accompany me on that train, including you.”
>”Should I leave now Sir?”
>He seems distraught at that order.
>It’s around five in the afternoon.
“Not yet, I’d like to talk some more.”
>You take a sip of tea.
>After being sustained through tubes for weeks, you can’t explain the feeling of drinking once again.
“How has the city been since Flurry left?”
>”Quiet I suppose, many of the Crystal ponies have gone off to fight, but everyday life continues.”
“How many men did she leave here?”
>”Just under a thousand.”
“And why the shock at being ordered to leave?”
>”Sir?”
“Your eyes went wide when I gave the order, why?”
>”Well… you see…”
“Who is she?”
>>
>>26749437
>”Why would you think-“
“You’re what, 23? I’ve been leading men for longer than you’ve been alive. I know the look.”
>”Her name is Winter Gem, she’s your nurse.”
“Glad to see my personal injury got you a marefriend.”
>”Sir, I di-“
“Relax, it’s a joke.”
>”Oh.”
“Tell me something. Do you love her, and does she love you?”
>”Absolutely.”
“Then you know what you have to do, and you still have tomorrow to do so.”
>”With all due respect, why do you care?”
“Because I’ve seen too many men put it off until they get back home, but never come back.”
>”Did you just imply that I’m going to die?”
“No you idgit, I’m saying that even if it’s for a day or two you should make the most of it. Don’t put it off; you’ll thank me for it when you’re older.”
>“Still sounds like you think I’m gonna die.”
“You let your men speak casually with you, and you get this when you give them legitimate advice!”
>The two of you laugh at the situation.
>”Sir, could I ask you something?”
“You just did.”
>”Would you be my best stallion- err- best man?”
“Why not? After all, it’s been ages since I was at a wedding.”
>”Thanks Sir.”
“Well, what are you waiting for? Go pop the question.”
>”What, right now?”
“Yes, you can deal with the details tonight and tomorrow morning.”
>With that, the Sergeant runs out of the café, presumably to fly straight back to the hospital.
>Even if the young couple never gets reunited, they deserve the small time they have in these days.
>The real pain would be if they were left wondering ‘what if’ for the rest of their days.
>Not knowing is worse than knowing you’ve lost someone.
>As you finished your tea and paid, you left to go give the orders to your pegasi.
>Then you went to pick out your formal uniform.
>Best to relax before the coming storm.

>The bride’s family and a couple of friends were there, and some of the groom’s closer comrades-in-arms came to wish him well.
>You stood in a uniform modeled after what modern American generals wore in your world.
>Then came the reception.
>You were in a rather normal ball room near the tower.
>First were toasts.
>The bride’s father, the groom, and the maid of honor gave rather ordinary ones, wishing best of luck, etcetera.
>Then, as the best man, came yours.
>You stood to give it.
“I’m only going to say this once: at ease.”
>You hear chuckles from the military ponies.
“I must admit that coming up with battle speeches is a lot easier for me, but I’ll try my best.”
>You look to the bride.
“Winter, I don’t know you that well; you were my nurse for almost two months, so I know that you’ll be able to take care of him. Also, I’ve seen him bluff in card games, when he shifts his right wing that means he’s lying. But, I don’t think you’ll ever need that information, he’s a good stallion and I’m glad you found each other during these troubling times.”
>You turn to the groom.
“I’d like to think I can read my men rather well. And when I saw Thunder here talk about his bride to be, I knew that he had found his soul mate. You’re one of the best men I’ve had the pleasure of having under my command, and one of a small handful of ponies that I know I can completely depend on. And I know that you’ll give your wife even more devotion than you’ve given to me. When this conflict is over, I wish the best to the family, and hope that many children can bless the marriage of Winter and the Lieutenant here.”
>”Lieutenant?” Thunder asks.
“Call it a wedding present. Now, to the bride and groom.”
>You raise your champagne glass.
>The crowd repeats the toast.
>You down the glass in one go.
“Now go cut the cake already!”
>The crowd cheers.
>>
>>26759654
>The couple started to cut the cake, and pass it out.
>Ponies stood about, eating and talking for a while.
>In the corner of the hall a band played music.
>Slower stuff.
>There was a pianist, two violinists, and a cellist.
>Your small talk was mostly about telling some old war stories.
>The bride’s father was a veteran of the First War of the Saddle Arabian Coast, and you spent a lot of time swapping your tales from the conflict.
>Due to the amount of soldiers here, most of the conversations revolved around old stories, and thoughts on the current war.
>Mostly things were hopeful.
>After the ponies had finished eating, the dances started.
>First to the waltz were the bride and groom.
>Then the bride and her father.
>As they danced the groom joined in with his new mother-in-law.
>You felt a nudge in your side, as the maid of honor bumped her shoulder into you.
>A crystal pony with a light hazel coat, and a darker golden main kept free flowing in a mid-length.
>Her name was Amber Dawn.
>She nudges you again.
>Right, best man and maid of honor are expected to dance.
>You raise your right hand to accept her hoof, and join the others.
>At least when ponies stand on two legs to waltz, they’re almost at your height.
>The remaining wedding goes soon filter in as well.
“Sorry if I’m a bit rusty.”
>”Oh you can the worse than me.”
“So, you’re the bride’s sister, right.”
>”Yup, big sis watching her little baby sis go.”
“I don’t mean any offense, but there isn’t much of a family resemblance.”
>”We get that all the time, she took after mom and I took after dad.”
>You try to remember how many glasses you’ve had.
>Four or five.
>It doesn’t really matter; you can barely feel a buzz.
>>
>>26759671
>”So, you’re going back to the war tomorrow morning?”
“Affirmative.”
>”Won’t that be dangerous?”
“Always is.”
>”Is that where you go the scar?”
>She’s referring to the old wound over your left eye.
“Actually no, that one was from a dragon.”
>”Oh really?”
“Every five years or so I was sent into the Everfree forest to thin the herds of nasty creatures in it, and the second time out I found an adult dragon. Long story short, I left with the scar and the dragon didn’t leave at all.”
>”Sounds a lot more exciting than my life.”
“What do you do?”
>”I’m a school teacher for young colts and fillies.”
“Sounds like you have the tougher job; I’d take a hundred battlefields before a room full of small children. My life is only at risk once in a while, you risk it every day of your life.”
>”Well they haven’t tried to kill me recently, so I must be doing something right.”
“They’re obviously plotting something big, watch out.”
>”Ha, is that your tactical opinion?”
“Something like that.”
>As you look around the room, you see that some of the ponies have stopped dancing.
>You’d be okay to stop as well.
“Excuse me for a moment; I’ve got something planned for the bride and groom.”
>”Come back soon.”
>You leave the maid of honor and head over the bar.
>You order a gin and tonic before heading over to the band.
>You sip your drink as you wait for the song to end.
>When it does, you ask to have the piano for a moment.
>You reach over and grab a microphone, placing it so it can pick up your voice.
“Excuse me, I’ve got a song from my world that I think embodies the bride and groom pretty well. In keeping with the pace, I’ll take it slow as well.”
>You crack your fingers, and test out a few notes on the piano.
>You’ve still got it.
>>
Sorry, but this is it for tonight. I've got a bit of free time tomorrow, so there might be a bit more than today's.
>>26759681
>You begin playing a loose cover as you sing slowly into the microphone.
“Rastsvetali iabloni i grushi,

>There is applause as you end.
>The bride and groom seemed to enjoy it.
>You’ll tell them the meaning someday.
>After that you took your drink and returned to the bar.
>You don’t normally drink this much, but hey- it’s a wedding.

>Three of the soldiers here aside from the now-lieutenant were pegasi.
>They ended up coming to the bar.
“Hey barkeep, let’s get a round of whiskey over here.”
>Four shot glasses are slid your way, and you give one to each while holding up your own.
“To the coming victory.”
>”Cheers.”
>There is some idle discussion about the state of the fronts, but soon you order another round.
>A third soon follows.
>As your conversation with the men dies down, they end up heading back to the main floor.
>And you order another gin and tonic.
>You were soon joined at the bar by another pony.
>”Well you’re full of surprises.” The maid of honor tells you.
“I try.”
>”So what exactly was that?”
“Katyusha, it’s a Russian wartime love song.”
>”Who are the Russians?”
“Tough men that are one quarter bear and survive entirely on Vodka.”
>She looks terrified at the thought.
“It’s just a joke.”
>”Do you know any more of their songs?”
“Plenty, but I doubt they’d fit the situation.”
>But you’re just buzzed enough to do something.
“Hold my drink.”
>You step into a clearer area and bring yourself closer to the ground.
>Your knees are going to hurt tomorrow.
>You begin performing various Cossack Dance motions.
>You end with the prisyadka, halfway through it you unfold your arms and start waving your hat around.
>Yeah that’s going to hurt tomorrow.
>Returning to the bar, you hear applause behind you as you take your drink back.
>Could have sworn there was less in it then you remember.
>”That… sure was something.”
“Spasibo.”

>There is a confused look on her face.
“Means ‘thank you’ in Russian.”
>”Ah.”
>You down the remainder of your gin and tonic.
>You whistle at the barkeep.
“A medium Vodka dry Martini- with a slice of lemon peel. Shaken and not stirred please.”
>”Make that two.”
>While waiting or your drink, you look at the closest clock.
>Just about six in the afternoon.
>And the train won’t leave until noon tomorrow.
>The barkeep slides over the two drinks.
>You grab yours and hold it up.
“For the Motherland.”
>She toasts her glass to yours.
>”Cheers.”
“You know it’s been ages since I was at a wedding.”
>”This is the first I’ve been to.”
“How do you like it?”
>”Well the company is great.”
>Her statement was then cut short as the groom made an announcement.
>”Alright everypony, Winter and I are going to be heading out now, but please stay and enjoy the rest of the party, it’s booked till midnight.”
>There are some cheers about the continued party, and some whistles from the more wedding savvy ponies.
>Amber then got up from the barstool and turned to you.
>”Hold my drink, my sis is going to throw the bouquet.”
>As you take the drink in your free hand, she rushes over to the crowd.
>You lose sight of her in it.
>But you do see the flowers soar through the air.
>Then you see the bride and groom head over to the door.
>As they open it, he grabs her in his front hooves and flies out of sight.
>The maid of honor soon returns, clutching the bouquet.
>You hand her drink back to her.
“Congrats.”
>”About time too, thirty five and still no hubby.”
>>
>>26769113
“That’s what a twelve year gap between the two of you?”
>”Thirteen, parents had me at twenty then Winter surprised them at thirty-three.
“Your choice to wait for a later marriage?”
>”No. Winter got all of the charm, and because of the wars the mares outnumber the stallions six to four…”
“Sorry about that.”
>”You should be, getting all of the eligible ones killed.”
>She overplayed the sarcasm in that to make sure you didn’t take it seriously.
>”But now I’ve got luck on my side.”
“You don’t really believe in the old bouquet superstition?”
>”Who said anything about the bouquet, I’m talking about this drink.”
“Great, an alcoholic school teacher, that’s just what the next generation needs.”
>”Well if you insist.”
>She downs the rest of her glass in one go.
>”And just so you know, I only drink on special occasions.”
“And what exactly is a ‘special occasion’ to you?”
>”You know: birthdays, hearths warming eve, weekends. Hey barkeep, let’s get another over here.”
“You know, I have to hand it to you. Not many ponies keep up with the snark to snark combat.”
>”In your words from earlier: I try.”
“Touché.”
>She picks up her fresh drink as it’s sent over.
>”We need a new toast.”
“To functioning alcoholics.”
>You clink the glasses together.
>”Spasibo.”
“You’re a quick learner.”
>”You’re a good teacher.”
“Says the teacher.”
>”Just don’t tell any of my students.”
>It might be the alcohol affecting your memory, but you could have sworn that she was sitting closer to you than earlier.

>Idle conversation continued for an hour or two.
>After you each finished your Martinis, you had a bottle of wine sent over.
>It was nearing sundown, and you ended up pouring the last glasses of it.
>You’ve settled into a solid buzz.
>But even then you have an amazing tolerance.
>You’d have to openly choose to take in enough to get properly drunk, casual drinking hasn’t gotten you over the limit since your college days.
>It’s been nice to talk to actual people again.
>It reminds you about all of the reasons why you continue fighting.
>All most people want is to just live their lives; you have to stop the few who want to disrupt that.
>Anyway, your conversation continues.
“So there I was in the Changeling nest, the queen sat over the newest brood. I look straight at her and yell out ‘catch’. She raises her hoof and the bundle of dynamite gets lodged in one of her leg holes. After that I ran as fast as I could out of there.”
>”So that was common occurrence?”
“I was sent on a bug hunt every year or so, that one was two years go now. No more queens have been reported since then, so it isn’t that common anymore.”
>”You have had quite the exciting life.”
“Nah, it’s you pony’s lives that are the real exciting ones. You get to choose where you work, how to put your skills to use, and who to spend time with. I never had that choice in my line of work.”
>You had each finished your last glass of wine.
>”Sooo here’s the thing. I’m feeling a bit tipsy and I live a bit of a distance from here and it’s late. Would you, as the big tough soldier mind escorting me back? Just to be safe.”

>>26777022
Nope. You got a lot to think about and need to get back to Flurry asap. Sex can wait until the war ends. Tell her after the war you might come back and if something happens, then something happens.

My decision depends on one answer.

>She beckons towards a bottle of wine on an adjacent counter.
“Actually I think you’ve had enough to drink.”
>”But I’m perfectly sober… ish.”
>You close the distance between the two of you.
“Shhh.”
>You put a finger up to her lips.
“I don’t think that in your condition you’ll even be able to reach the bedroom.”
>In a swift motion you pick her up, her back resting into your arms as you look down to her face.
>She reaches her head towards yours, whispering into your ear:
>”Up the stairs, on the right.”
>She then nibbles on your ear lobe as you make your way up.
>After opening her door, you enter and place her on the bed.
>Helping her out of her dress.
>As she starts working at your shirt’s buttons she speaks once more:
>”I’m sorry it’s just that I’ve never done this before.”
“Is this what you want?”
>She pulls you into a deep kiss.
>That you reciprocate.
>A she breaks it she goes back to your ear.
>”Absolutely.”
>She then pulls you down onto the bed with her.

>Your eyes start to open slowly.
>The room is illuminated by sunlight coming through the cracks in the blind.
>You’re in a soft bed.
>Naked under a blanket.
>A head is resting on your chest, and the sunlight gleams off of her golden mane.
>You reach down and kiss Amber on her forehead.
>Her own eyes start to open.
>And she closes them again, tightening her grip around your torso.
>”Good morning.” She quietly murmurs.
“You have a good night?”
>”The best.”
>You glance at her bedside clock.
>Six A.M.
“You know I’ve got to go soon.”
>”So soon?”
“But seeing as it is a weekend and you won’t be needed at work, I could stay a bit longer.”
>She works her way to rest atop you, lying chest to chest.
>After you break free from the resulting kiss, you say one more thing.
“Just enough time to go again.”
>”Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

While i don't agree with your wording i do agree with your point. You two incestfags can go over to derpibooru and jerk off to some of that shit instead of constantly trying to force thingfag to write this kind of shit.Better yet, write it yourself.

Its not really incest anon. Sexy little Flurry isn't related to the Anon of the story by blood.

This shit again? I've already seen this trash reasoning in a "5 reasons why Twilight is shit" thread today. What is adoptive parenting again?

>A few hours later the two of you were sitting over breakfast.
>She’s not that bad of a cook.
>You had finally been relaxed after more than a decade of being pent up.
>Though it was much longer for your new friend.
>You were just finishing up breakfast.
>”So, what happens now?”
“Now I go off to war.”
>”You won’t be gone too long will you?”
>She’s completely head over heels.
>But you?
>Well you like her sure, but…
“Hard to say.”
>As you finish eating, you relocate to a couch in her living room.
>She’s pressing up next to you as you sit in it.
>”So when everything is all settled, you’ll come back here?”
“Well, even in times of peace most of my time is spent across the nation to inspect forts and garrisons. Busy work and it almost never ends.”
>Light twinkles off of her eyes before she rests her head on your shoulder.
>”I don’t mind waiting.”
>She’s set on the long game.
>You’re not sure what to think about that.
>This might have been a horrible mistake.
>But you’ve enjoyed yourself more in the past twenty or so hours than you can remember.
>”What time is it?”
>She looks past you to a clock.
>”Almost nine thirty.”
“Still gives me enough time to get everything set.”
>”What do you have to do?”
“At this point get a fresh set of clothes, and meet my men to lead them to the train.”
>”So just enough time to fit in a going away present?”
“Someone’s feeling… energetic.”
>”Well I’ve got my entire adult life to make up for. Also I won’t be seeing you for quite some time.”
“Who can argue logic like that?”
>She pushes you over, so that you’re lying on the couch before she crawls atop you.
>Then she flips your officer’s cap onto her own head as you reach your arms behind her neck to bring her in for a kiss.
>…
>>
>>26794305
>Some time later, she remained atop you.
>Both of you were exhausted from the three recent sessions.
>She was gently napping while still wearing your hat.
>You could stay here forever.
>Your breathing had synchronized, and her light snoring and murmuring was peaceful.
>For the first time in twenty some odd years, everything was right in the world.
>There was no war, no mad princesses, and no missing ponies.
>The weight of a nation was off your shoulders.
>There was just you, Amber, and bliss.
>The ever so smallest sliver of your mind considered retiring here and now.
>You looked over towards a clock.
>Eleven thirty.
>That’s great.
>You put your head back down, and closed your eyes.
>But they then shot back open.
>The train leaves in a half hour.
>You work your way out from the pony sleeping atop you.
>She didn’t wake up.
>You buckle your pants back up, and put your jacket and shoes on.
>As you quietly rush out of her home, you were halfway to the tower before realizing that you left your officer’s cap on her.
>But there was no time to turn back.
>You’d guess that ten minutes had passed as you jogged to your room.
>It took you another ten to get into less formal attire and to equip your weaponry.
>Five more minutes to get to your detachment of men.
>Lieutenant Thunder saluted as you approached.
>”Morning Sir. Though you would never join us, especially after a couple of the others saw you go off with-“
“One more word and I bust your flank back to private.”
>He remained silent as you led the men forward.
>As you approached the train, a nearby bell tower started to ring.
>You were maybe fifty feet from reaching it when the twelfth bong resounded.
>And simultaneously an explosion and fireball engulfed the train car you were about to be seated on.
>The car you should have been seated on if you weren’t late.

>Assassination attempt.
>Make this believable.
>Your let out a scream of agony, and clench your chest near your heart.
“SHRAPNEL!”
>You fall on your left knee while still clutching the wound.
“Men, secure the area, get the other soldiers to be on the lookout. Lieutenant Thunder, get a stretcher to fly me to the hospital. It hit close to the heart, and I’m not sure how long adrenaline can get keep me going.”
>You kept up the act while you waited and observed the wreckage.
>No ponies were on or near the car that exploded.
>And the bomb was presumably set to a timer, right when you would be leaving for the front.
>But most of the city knew that you were leaving, and the train schedule is public knowledge.
>As you were loaded onto a makeshift stretcher, the Lieutenant and another of your men flew you to the hospital.
>You leaned over to Thunder.
“When we’re there get your wife and the doctor who performed the surgery on me before the coma. Trust no one else.”
>As you landed near the hospital, you were rushed to the surgery room.
>Thunder, his wife, and your doctor were the only other ponies in the room.
>You got off of the surgery table that had been set up.
“Alright, someone just tried to have me killed. But each of you has had more than ample opportunity to kill me before this, so I trust you.”
>”Orders?” Thunder asks.
“We’ll remain in ‘surgery’ for an hour or two. After which you’ll send me back to my hospital room. I want you each to covertly spread the rumor that I’m alive and stable but gravely wounded from a shard of the explosive that hit a vital region. Lieutenant, I want at least three dozen men stationed in the hospital: a strong defensive pattern, but one that can easily be bypassed. Winter, doctor, I want you to set up the life support machines to work without being attached. Whoever did this will try to finish the job, but I’ll be waiting.”
>>
>>26795271
>Many hours later, you sat in the closet of a hospital room.
>The room was dark, and the blinds closed.
>A curtain was around ‘your’ bed, and the tubes, needles, and diodes were hooked up to a few pillows underneath a blanket.
>The steady beeping kept you company while you waited.
>To your right you had your sword leaning against the closet’s corner.
>You had your dagger in your left hand, ready to use.
>The time waiting was spent contemplating possible suspects.
>The intricacies of a bombing ruled out some of the possibilities.
>Three possibilities remained: The griffons, Saddle Arabians, and the Royalists.
>But the former two were unlikely; someone would have seen the other species skulking about.
>Unless they worked through intermediaries, buying local or military manpower.
>You think back to the attempt on your life in Appleoosa.
>Maybe the monarchs have had you marked for death for quite some time.
>Given recent discoveries about Cadence, now you wouldn’t put assassination past them.
>You need to catch the perpetrator tonight.
>After today, there will only be four days before the offensive.
>And if you rush, you might just make it in time.
>It’s been quite some time.
>Through cracks in the blinds, you could see that the sun was setting.
>The guards should be changing soon.
>If you were an assassin, that’s when you’d strike.
>You hear movement outside in the hall.
>The door creaks open, and a single set of hooves enter.
>You rise silently as you hear the hooves trot over to ‘your’ bed.
>As you come out of the closet, you see a silhouette approaching where you should be.
>You move into position behind the pony, and throw your right arm around its neck, getting ready to thrust your dagger into the would be killer.

>The pony screamed in terror.
>Wait.
>That sounds somewhat familiar.
>And that soft smell of almonds…
“Amber?”
>”Anon?”
>You release her from your grip.
“What are you doing here?”
>”I heard from my sis that you were hurt, so I came to check on you.”
“Didn’t the guards stop you?”
>”What guards? There were some outside but a unicorn was leading them away from the hospital.”
>That’s now how the changing of the guard is supposed to happen.
“What unicorn?”
>”It was dark, but I think he had a pale red coat and blackish mane.”
>Lieutenant Light Eclipse.
>A mole in your own ranks.
>You headed over to the window, and peaked through the blinds.
>Another group of soldiers was approaching.
>You counted about thirty.
>And you didn’t recognize any of them.
>They’re here to kill you.
“Amber.”
>”Is it bad?”
“Very.”
>You rush back to the closet to fetch your sword.
“I need you to listen very carefully. Two dozen plus ponies are masquerading as my men; I want you to take this.”
>You put your dagger into her hoof.
“Now, you’re going to hide in this closet until it’s passed.”
>You usher her towards the corner of the closet.
>You then grab a few pillows and start to stack them around her.
“You need to hide until it’s passed. If you hear anyone approach, without me personally giving an all clear, then you stay completely still and silent. If they open this closet and start to move these covers then use that knife, and run as fast as you can.”
>She’s almost completely buried in the pillows and blankets now, but her head is still peeking out.
>You kneel down and kiss her, before placing a final blanket over the entire heap.
>As you start to close the closet doors you hear her say something.
>”Good luck.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon. I promise.”
