Not OP, but I'll try to explain.
Lately I've been feeling like the show is sacrificing world integrity for easy storytelling. It's not just Princess McFlurry, though that's certainly a part of it; the feeling has been growing for a bit now.
I look around and I see people coming up with piles of genuinely good ideas on everything from how Earth Pony magic works to what Equestria's foreign relations are like, from villain origin stories to how the Equestria's military fits in. And I find myself enjoying those a lot more than the actual show itself, which increasingly has moments that leave me frustrated rather than enjoying it.
And yes, you could quite easily say that the integrity of the setting was never really their objective in the first place and we're only just seeing it now. It's a fair point.
But I still end up enjoying a lot of fan worldbuilding more than the actual show, which worries me. I want to enjoy the show still and am not ready to get off the ride - but I'm increasingly finding that difficult to do.

Magic and the way it works - the show does seem very loose about how it actually functions beyond "Friendship and Love are exceedingly powerful and "chosen" ponies or those who study hard can be great mages in some respects. I like to see how individuals define it.
The blanks that are obviously left unsaid about certain events in history or the races we've come to understand very little (or nothing) of. The introduction of new ideas and elements that cannot be (or haven't, anyway) introduced but still plausibly brought in and addressed properly within the show's context to not look too alien or outlandish.Its kinda hard to explain myself since its not something Ive discussed before. Still, I keep current with all the episodes and even rewatch just to see how well elements are brought in and defined, and how much room they leave to "play with".
