Pegasi need clouds to do magic, and sunlight is not something most pegasi can learn. So sunlight wands are in high demand among Pegasi and Earth Ponies who want to face Vampires. Most unicorns could take the time and effort to learn the spell, but few know it right now, mostly solar guards. If Vampire attacks become more common than I'd imagine many unicorns would learn the spell for protection.

Ballshots actually aren't that effective at stunning.

Easy to defend and retaliate against, it's a small target, and doesn't debilitate the enemy at all if their adrenaline is up.

Plus, we're literally on top of him, way too close to use a firearm. In the time it would take to draw the gun, aim, and fire, he would already have time to either knock the gun away, punch, claw, or bite.

A melee attack to the face or torso is a far better bet.

Every time the hoof guard is used offensively or is put on or taken off I roll a d20. If the roll is a 1 then it fucks up in some way. Either falling off, or This is independant of the attack roll. For example when it stuck in the Dog's eye you actually got a crit for the attack roll.
