Hey /mlp/. Which real life martial art do think would be the easiest to adapt to be taught to and practiced by ponies?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu could work. Most of the techniques are done with both opponents lying or sitting on the ground.

This should be the obvious choice:

A lot of good that training will do when they can just get shot.

If that's the case then why do modern day soldiers still practice hand-to-hand combat?

Some dumbasses think you have to be close enough for someone to grab you to shoot them and deserve to have their ass beat.

Capoeria. Most of the techniques involve standing on your hands and kicking or spinning around. Some techniques even resemble somewhat the way a horse bucks. Plus it's often practiced to music, and considering how much ponies often like to break into song...

It's actually a psychological trick.

The U.S. marines mcmap system is essentially useless unless they get specialized training and practice for years.

The only reason they're taught it is to create willingness to engage even at close range when unarmed. It's a motivational tool.

Granted in this day and age if you're close enough to punch, you're in the blast radius. Firefights are the most common form of combat and this is reflected in training. The amount of combat training done with rifles and weapons far outstrips learning any unarmed combat system in most cases.
