Most people originally come to 4chan because, unlike sites like leddit, you're free to express whatever fucking idea you want and have it judged on its own merits instead of being colored by who posted it. The problem these days is that the last few waves of newfags over the past couple of years have only ever known these types of identity-based communities, so instead of people actually discussing things they become obsessed with trying to figure out who posted what and flinging shit at one another.
This is the real reason why there is "no new content besides shit OCs and greentext stories" (even though the latter *is* original content you fucking inbred mongoloid), because 9 out of 10 posts in every thread are people calling every post bait or yelling at people for replying to bait.
If you try to defend a point you made or disprove someone else's (also known as having a discussion), instead of continuing that conversation people instead just write it off as "damage control", which, as you so perfectly demonstrated, is nothing more than an insubstantial buzzword used instead of presenting a counterpoint.
