It's even worse considering there is much more to do in the show. RariTwi has never been done in anything ever, and RariPie was only kind of in that Fluttershy episode. Why not an episode of Rarity teaching Twilight how to be "royal" of her mindset, and learn a lesson that way. I actually really like Rarijack, I think they play off each other naturally very well and am not tired of the dynamic, but I do really want an episode where it's Rarity teaching APPLEJACK a lesson with Applejack clearly being the one in the wrong. Don't think we've ever really had that but we've had plenty of the other way around.
Really I think the only episodes Applejack is paired up with someone and she's the one in the wrong are the two where she got paired with Pinkie.

RariJack is popular because it's a weeaboo memeship created in 2011. If it weren't for the sleepover (aka Toradora rip-off) episode, it would never have gained virtue.
Applepie has more counted hugs then Rarijack and generally get along alot better but it's one of the least popular ship in the fandom.

Rarijack didn't really get popular till like late 2013 or so though. Before that it was pretty mid tier and heavily overshadowed by AppleDash.
Pinkie for whatever reason just has no truly popular ships anymore. PinkieDash was huge in S1 and 2 then it kinda just died.

So you're correct in saying Rarijack started primarily from the sleepover episode, it's since gotten more "support" from the show.

It's only retarded in that it'll never happen in the show, but given the lack of male characters with importance other than Spike, the fact that the vast majority of popular ships are Lesbian ships makes a lot of sense. People would rather ship something when they care about both sides of it.
But yes it's true, Rarijack got more popular as their interactions in the show became more and more frequent in every season past the first, while some of the early ships like PinkieDash and to a lesser extent AppleDash (which is still very popular but not what it once was) declined as those characters who had lots of interaction in S1, interacted less as the series progressed.

Suited for Success comes to mind as an always entertaining classic, Look Before You Sleep as well. But S5 was really generous with Rarity episodes, Rarity Investigates and Canterlot Boutique were both great episodes imo, with Made in Manehattan being solid as well.
I also liked Rarity Takes Manehattan. A lot of people have issues with it, but I feel with her, goddamn.

Well, depends who you ask, probably. If you'll check the ranking thread going on right now (and the previous one), the episode is all over the place - in top 20, around 60 in the middle of the pack, but also 90 and lower quite often. In the previous thread there were 44 lists, and RTM was below 90 in 11 of them. That's far from consistent, sadly.

Rarity Takes Manehattan was voted top 25 on this very board last year dude, yeah it was a bit bellow a few other Rarity episodes but it's not even remotely unpopular, it actually beat Sweet and Elite (which I disagree with but whatever)
Now, Canterlot Boutique, that's one that is ontrack to be underrated, it's a damn solid episode but I see it on the lower half of peoples S5 list a lot, I think it just wasn't funny enough for a lot of people.

Rarity Takes Manehattan apparently has dropped 33 spots in the average which is odd, actually every Rarity episode has dropped a bit compared to last year other than Suited for Success, I guess less Rarafags are doing it this time around... Look Before you Sleep dropped a lot too.
And despite this she's still dominating most of the Mane 6 once things are averaged out.

I mean currently you have Canterlot Boutique beating Tanks for the Memories, I happen to like CB more but looking around the fandom I can tell the reaction when Tanks aired was a lot more positive.
