There are certainly associations with colors, and good package design(and without a proper color palette one cannot be done right) may be a point of purchase, but colours on their do not cause real emotions, especially because one has both negative and positive associations and it's all about context. Also, the main reason is the personality and personal preferences, as already mentioned in this thread, and character design just emphasize personality

Yeah the whole "well endowed shy girl" trope works fine for Fluttershy, part of it is the fact she's been drawn like that since the beginning of the fandom. This reinforces the idea in people's minds, and makes them more likely to draw her with certain proportions.
