Look at it like this, MLP is a lot like Pokemon. Pokemon was super big when it came out, which was back in the 90's...that's like two decades. It's not as popular as it was then, maybe, but it's still a HUGE franchise. Tons of people still fricken love Pokemon, and there are still new people discovering they like Pokemon every year.
The same thing will happen to MLP, because of loyal fans and the fact that companies like guaranteed money.
And I mean, Pokemon still gets good fan content; still plenty of cute new pokemon pics, or MAPs, or fanfics,porn, whatever I don't really follow Pokemon much.

But there's a ton of merchandise for both--toys, comics, a fricken CHRISTMAS ALBUM just came out for mlp--, which makes a way bigger difference.
