I know the arc overall was crap, but it's still the closest thing we'll probably ever get to seeing Celestia ever having an actual romantic relationship. Hell, it's the closest we'll ever see to her getting to be a normal woman. We know she has a bit of a hidden playful side, but it's always quickly put away behind the royal visage. She makes mistakes. She angers Starswirl to the point of forcing him to destroy the portal to the Reflections world. She gets to experience love. Yeah, it was with Mirror!Sombra, but it's at least some form of a relationship. And it's the only real known time Celestia was truly happy after she had to banish Nightmare Moon. Sucky writing or not, we know more about Celestia from that one arc than in anything else.

The bigger problem with that arc in general was that it was touted as something that was going to give depth to Celestia's character when in fact it pretty much did nothing except paint her in a bad light.
She fell in love instantly with Sombra, love at first sight is certainly possible but not to the extent that it was shown in the comic. Celestia had just shown that she was capable at putting the needs of her subjects above her own happiness by banishing Luna, the fact that she was threatening not only her own existence but everyone else's over some dude she had spent so little time with is ludicrous.
And by the end of the comic absolutely nothing had changed, we leaned nothing about Celestia. Other than she was willing to destroy everything over some dude she had met quite recently. To make matters even worse their actual relationship had pretty much no expansion other than that they were apparently quite literally madly in love with each other so to the reader Celestia's actions seemed downright retarded because there was no emotional attachment to the relationship. We still don't know how she acts away from the crown or how her true personality is, nothing. The comic was throwaway, nothing from it will ever be referenced and it did nothing to expand on the characters personality. That above all makes it fit quite nicely with the whole "the comics are not cannon" thing.
As far as the comics go we learned much more about her comic personality in the Luna micro and the big mac arc than Reflections which showed nothing.

I started a similar green with similar result (no clue where to go with it) Anon from present day arrives and all the ponies are a little too excited to see him, but can't explain why. They bring him to Celestia, and she practically starts crying with joy upon seeing a creator, before straightening up and delivering an incredibly detailed status report. Anon can only stand there with a 1000 yard stare until she realizes something is wrong.

Mine had a somewhat different idea:Anon, Celestia and Luna, and Discord were intended to function as rough approximations of a 3-part government to assist in the development of the ponies.

Anon quietly shepherds along the relics the Creators left behind - including a small starship fleet - but doesn't know what to do anymore, as both planet and ponies have reached the stage of development the Creators intended.

Just a scene or two that came to me. Any story is implicit rather than explicit, if that makes sense. I had to write it, to get it out of my head. Yes, the "biped" is human. No, he's not from our world.
Commentary and criticism welcome.

Yeah, I could very definitely see her running a school. Despite being a highly adept manager, I don't think she'd go for a big one, though - do that, and you lose the persona touch she'd be craving after all those years as the distant ruler. She'd want a school small enough she can still take a moment to pop in, say hello to the foals, and maybe even teach a class herself on occasion.
