Now that the season is over I'm planning on making another series of episode ranking threads starting about a week from now to see where the new season is going to sit in the charts.
It'll be the same one on one episode sorter, and in my testing seems to take about an hour minimum to do if you don't get stuck on any particular match for too long. I'll keep it running for a few weeks to get as many Anons in as possible and since I know the lists take a while to make.
Few questions in the meantime. Does pic related look okay? Any typos of glaring design flaws that I should fix?
Think any episodes in particular are going to be high up in there? At this point I doubt anything gets over Return of Harmony since it's been 1st for so long.
Also is there anyone good with javascript and html that may be able to help me figure out how to add some links to episode descriptions based on whatever two episodes are currently being ranked without it messing up the saving or final table it makes at the end?
An Anon suggested it in another thread and I think it would help to quickly figure out what an episode was if someone forgot.

It took me a while to figure out how to read this. The calendar dates Mar-15 and Jun-14, at least, would be more clearly labeled by "Current" and "Previous." I thought of the leftmost column as just indices at first, rather than actual rankings, since it's on the left side of the episode titles, so I couldn't tell what the "Change" column meant -- I thought it was related to the historical rankings further to the right.
I think it would be more clear to give the columns descriptions other than calendar dates: "Current," "Previous," "S3/S4," and "S2/S3," for example.

I saw the IMDB charts that had trends and thought it may be nice to have here as well. Especially the series trend.

I tried with a pony ranking chart I did a while ago and it looked pretty bad. I can experiment with colors and see if I can find a nice looking balance though.

I wonder if how well they were treated this season makes people stop judging CMC episodes so harshly. Pretty much all AB episodes were right next to each-other near the bottom last time.

Top and bottom episodes never seem to move too much, RoH is always first and SAYS last for example, but the middle of the rankings is pretty fluid. I can see their episodes being higher if this season made people think more fondly of them.

Main problems with that for me would be bias from the initial positioning of the list affecting results, and it potentially taking longer and being less accurate than the way I have now since you have to move all of the episodes into place based on a large 120 item list instead of comparing all the episodes against one another two at a time.

Looking at this, I think everything ought to be kept solid. Looks like I misunderstood the black line -- it's only a slight slope, so I assumed it was a flat value, the median episode ranking or something. But it's the series trend! I can't read.

I'm not surprised. If you find some fantastic combination then you could use that for an alt version of the chart. Otherwise it's information anyone can easily edit in via MSPaint if they like.

It goes through all of them as many times as it takes to figure out where they should sit according to the individual. For example Lesson Zero is my favorite of the series, so for it to rise to the top I have to pick it 10 or 12 times over everything else to end up there. SAYS as my worst would mean picking everything else over it a few times as well. You get the option to pick each item a few times.

The randomized initial list thing is actually something that an Anon up there suggested as a different way to sort the episodes by just dragging and dropping all of them in whatever order they wanted all at once instead of through a series of one on one choices like usual. You can skip that if doing a whole new thing is too much.

As you can probably tell, she's my favorite. Though she's good and cute when she's lively, seeing her weakness, fears, and insecurity like it was presented there makes her more relateable and makes the bravery and optimism she normally shows that much more admirable. It also made the end of CotLM more rewarding and happy and made me feel that it was definitely earned. I think the way they fit in all those concepts and ideas about cutie-mark related conflict into one episode was very clever and executed perfectly, too. The feels and moral were nice and relatable to me personally, about that crippling fear of the future and accepting yourself for who you are.

You should offer a wide range of ages. Perhaps break ages into 4-year increments. I know plenty of fans in their 30s and 40s and even a few in their 50s.

Alright, undo is here. It allows you to go all the way back to the beginning if you've managed to fuck up that bad, and is save friendly.
There's a rare bug where the question number is off which may be caused by a different bug, but I have only managed to get it by spamming the shit out of the no opinion/I like both and the undo button, so it shouldn't be a problem for normal use. Also, it breaks if you hit undo on a completed list. Other than those two things, it should be good to go.

Does that just affect the battle number, or does it affect the ability to finish a list? I don't really mind a cosmetic thing like the number being wrong in the former case, and I guess it being so easily fixable by spamming buttons in the latter isn't that bad either. I just want to make sure I got the cases down for when I make the OP.

I'm honestly not sure. It only changes at the end of a function, and it only ever goes lower than what it's supposed to so it's probably not fully doing what it's supposed to when it happens.
I was able to complete the list with it, there might of been an episode or two out of place but I couldn't really tell.

It's actually caused by spamming buttons, specifically the center ones. The way that those two values are stored when picked is pretty shit and difficult to work with, almost all of my problems were trying to work around it. I wouldn't be surprised if I missed something.
It only seems to happen when the middle ones are picked a lot, like >60%, and ironically it works perfectly fine when only the middle ones are picked. Probably something to do with long chains of equal values being shoved around.
Like I said it's extremely rare. In my tests, I was going up and down the sorter multiple times spamming everything and the largest the number changed was by 5~6.
Considering that it's discouraged to pick the middle options, and the average person would only use a handful of undos rather than literally hundreds, I don't see it being an issue.
I'll probably mess around with it some more during the week. I kinda just want to rewrite the whole thing from scratch. Maybe for the pre-s6 survey.
