I'm actually more upset about how they ruined the character of Starlight Glimmer with the ending of the finale.

i was really hoping that they had kept a huge secret from the pre airing credits and were going to have sunset and twilight team up.
a villain twilight reformed helping another misguided soul find the light would have been better execution imo, starlight caving to twilights speech seems like a cop out

You know, now that they've got Starlight, the writers might actually have a good opportunity to show Sunset visiting Equestria now. Since Starlight likely doesn't know about Sunset, this would give them an excuse to explain who she is for the people who didn't watch EqG.

It didn't sink at first because she was an unhinged and awfully salty mare who had her ideological perspective completely unraveled by those meddling ponies. She only had a personal vendetta for Twilight left to drive her, leading to the finale. Even then, Starlight only began to change when even she realized her own selfish and spiteful actions weren't healthy for the whole of Equestria, which Twilight appeals toward to get her listening.
