Home on the Range was basically made by Disney to kill demand for 2D animation. The Princess and the Frog flopping and Frozen doing so well just ensured to Disney that 2D isn't what you put on the silver screen.
MLP will be the first wide release Western 2D animation film since 2012 when it comes out. Oscars love gimmicks like the people who make Shaun of the Sheep. It will probably get a nom at least for a technical Oscar or song.
