Age spells are stated to be hella hard. There also must be a ton of problems with that solution, otherwise there'd be a ruling class of immortals.
An actual size changing spell might work, though we've never seen any kind of spell like that being cast. Presumably there's also problems with that, since transmutation spells have been used in the past and they're not really used for anything outside of a temporary convenience.

He's a baby dragon, he's only as old as Twilight's cutie mark right now. According to Faust, that's around 8 years old, I've never seen anyone interpret him as older than 12. Even if he spends his entire life by Twilight's side he'd still have thousands of years left once Twilight passes away to figure things out by himself.
That said, I think he wants the simple things like most dragons do. Which essentially boils down to comfort, respect, etc.
Him being heavily influenced by pony lifestyle, I don't expect him to one day move out and go live in a cave like his brethren, I think instead he'll live in a well-decorated mansion or similar (he really took a liking to the Castle) with servants and all that comes with it, capitalizing on his connections to Celestia and the upper crust of society. He's already calling in favors and working behind the scenes fairly often as is, just imagine the political and economical powerhouse he could be in a decade or five.
Will he, in time, try to overthrow the princesses? Probably not. He's learned the hard way that giving in to greed is not a good thing. Rather than eat the entire cake now it's better to have a slice of cake every now and then and work to increase the size of the cake. At his heart he's really very loyal.

We've had multiple threads on the subject, what's most commonly agreed is that mane6 are around the age of 20-22, with RD being the youngest and AJ (and Rarity?) being the oldest. Plus/minus a few years. Maybe more like 22-24 now that a few seasons (and years) have passed. Which would make Spike slightly older...
It's not a precise science, but the mane6 are younger than 30 and older than 15, Spike is older than 5 and younger than 15.

Faust used the fact that they were ponies as an excuse for them to be learning friendship lessons as adults, since they'd have low actual ages in years. If Spike was born 8 years ago then Applebloom has to be at least 8 years old, so that would contrast the idea of them aging at the speed of horses.
Though the ponies do seem to be all entering puberty pre 10s, so maybe they're just aging at a different rate altogether.
