I suppose what happened to it depends on what kind of village it is. If it's a farming place, they probably waited until fall, harvested, and then gtfo. If its another kind of specialty town (mining, producing products for a nearby city, etc), they may have stayed since it was likely profitable. If it was just a small attempt at a self-sufficient town they probably all went back to their old towns immediately.
