It really wasn't. Character interaction was abysmal beyond Applejack talking to Coloratura and even then their relationship was so milquetoast it didn't really bring any eintertainment.
Story itself was very generic, the manager was boring and then it just cuts to 4 minutes of fairly weak music.
I will not say this was badly made, but it was sterile and weak as hell. A big shame being AKR's final contribution imo.

But realism doesn't make satisfying media, after all if it did the show itself wouldn't ever happen since the way our 6 girls befriended each other in the first 2 episodes was complete bogus. The least they could've done was make Countess an actualy fun character to watch instead of a set piece that looks sad sometimes.

Who else /finale/ hype?
I did really enjoy it, but I just can't help but feel that not a whole lot actually happened. This is meant to be the soft-season finale right? Before they do a big two-part episode to actually cap off the season. So it's meant to be like The Best Night Ever in scale and yet not a whole lot actually happens. It seems really uneventful.
I get the feeling that the scene with Pinkie and Applejack at the beginning dragged on longer than it should have but I don't think making it shorter would have had much of an impact. There was that "conflict" in the middle of the episode which seems really forced for the commercial break because the very next scene Rara doesn't seem to hate Applejack anymore. It just feels unnecessary to even raise the conflict if it's not going anywhere (not that I'm saying it should have gone somewhere), they could have easily had the scene where Applejack says that she wants to prove that her manager doesn't give a shit after Rara had met the school ponies.
There's not enough time dedicated to why we should care about Rara. What happened when she tried to make it big? Why is she being forced to do pop shit when she clearly doesn't want to? What struggles did she go through? Anything that the audience might be able to identify with?
It's clear that Amy wanted to write a story that was longer than the 22 minute time slot would allow so I have no doubt that there were plenty of things that might've improved the episode that were cut; it just seems like they decided to leave in a lot of things that served very little purpose in the grand scheme of things. I feel like the song at the end doesn't have nearly as much meaning as it intended to because, I'll be honest, I don't really care about Rara and her struggles because very little of it is the focus of the episode.
Should this have been a 2 part episode? No. Should they have managed what happened in the story better? Yes. Should this have been AKR's final farewell to the show? Hell fucking no.

Something I haven't seen touched on yet was that this episode is another example of AKR being one of the few writers who actually know how to write for Pinkie Pie. She was wacky and eccentric without ever seeming lolrandumb or forced during the episode. She was engaged with the world around her, albeit in an unconventional way, rather than being off in cloud-kekooland.
Gosh darn it, I'm going to miss AKR. We don't have any good PP writers to spare.
