Was he? Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but I didn't really see him bending over backwards for anyone besides Rarity until The Grand Galloping Gala. He usually had a snarky quip for every insult thrown at him for most of the episodes.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the show. I just haven't liked Spike since season 2.

Fair enough. I remember hating that episode for some reason, but that was back when I liked Spike, so that makes sense.
The little abused gags are starting to come back to me as well, but I guess I was just naive when I was watching back then.
