The problem is, that writers would most likely make him a teenage jerk and the moral would go absolutely wrong. It would be more better about self-acceptance.
The point of episode would be struggle. Make it even better. Everypony knows who he is, yet new Spike is getting quickly along in Ponyville.
He could at certain points of episode reason (w or w/o Twilight, M6) why staying as pony could be good for his sake.
The rest of M6 would split about this idea. RD and Pinkie would be in favor of new pony, because they believe he needs to be happy.
AJ, Flutter however would have mixed opinion. Let them point out that Twi is pushing on him too much.
Rarara, Twi would of course "muh dragon spike" and "muh true inner self".
If bitterness would be allowed, then let Spike realize, that the reason why he is popular is that he is no longer a dragon. Engage depression spiral and his self-loathing mode activates again.
On the end, it would come hard punch fromRarity, telling him she hates fake Spike, believing that the original dragon is the only great pony she admires, but he needs to believe in himself. In a little verge of tears she sobbed telling she misses him already dearly. Plus add some sparity hint, but that's just Your preference

Honestly if you want a good Spike episode you should age him up physically and permanently. People joke about "dragon acne" when Miller mentioned him dealing with teenage problems, but there are legitimate internal issues that could go along with it.
