It really looks different. And feels different too, in many ways. I think there should be a separate fandom that rejects everything that Lauren Faust didn't work a lot on, and that tries to eliminate all later influences. Bring back old fanon, and carefully consider every single fanfiction and song if they could have been influenced by anything post season 1, and only accept the fanart that is purely inspired by season 1. The only things that should be considered canon should be Season 1, Return of Harmony, Luna Eclipsed, Heath's Warming Eve, what Lauren Faust has revealed, and leaks and other secret background material from season 1, and Lauren Faust's headcanon should hold great weight. If Laured Faust reveals direct influence on other episodes, the parts that she directly influenced can also be included, but unless proven to be pure, it has to be rejected in order to maintain a pure MLP experience, untainted by Hasbro, fandom, and other writers' bad taste.
And over to a completely different thing, one thing, that I've been complaining about ever since season 2, is that Pinkie Pie doesn't sing anymore. Random songs used to be a great part of her character, but it just doesn't happen anymore. Her songs nowadays are just regular songs, they don't feel like Pinkie Pie's random songs.

I do agree, Season 1 kinda feels different compared to the other.
The difference, I would say, is that Season 1 wasn't directed at anyone in particular. So it has that nice feeling of a cartoon, that anyone could watch. Simplistic storytelling for the most parts and an obvious morale by the end of an episode, so even a child can understand that. Yet, well-made enough so adults can enjoy it too, without having simplicity falling into stupidity.
Further seasons have much more adult-oriented content, be it references, fan pandering or more complex problems a child wouldn't understand. The show became from "Anyone can watch this" into "It's a show for kids to watch with their parents and ask questions from time to time".
However, to be honest, Season 1 also had these moments, for instance in "Party of One" episode, which is obviously can't be fully understood by a pre-teen child.
If someone would ask me a good cartoon I can safely recommend for a child, I would explicitly state MLP Season 1. And IF the child (or/and parents) come to actually like it - further seasons.
But I myself like Season 2 much more. Season 1 was really good but that's it. Seson 2 and further (save for S3 opener which is shit) made me go insane with ponies.

IMO the quality of the show hasn't dropped from S1 to S5, except for S3 which was a pothole in the road. Yes, I agree that S5 feels different from S1, we lost some things, but also gained some things and some new storyline possibilities. I agree that S1 felt comfier too.

Only people who didn't start until after season 2 started airing. Lots of people had many complaints about season 2 when it aired, like the lack of overarching plotline, the lack of creatures, and the lack of group episodes. And Rainbow Dash would have been horrible if it weren't for Hurricane Fluttershy.

Us S1 fans should stick together.
It's not completely different. While the first season stays closest to the idea that friendship and interaction between the main characters is the point of the show and stands front and center, there are still plenty of these episode through the rest of the seasons (although there are a lot less throughout this season).
S1 did good with setting up the world and introducing the characters. Twilight was our viewing glass into a world of cute ponies doing cute things with an adventure or discovery or two on occasion.
S2 expanded on it more and had its share of new ideas and encounters. I liked it a lot up to the Royal Canterlot wedding. The changelings were a cool race, but we learned fuck all about them aside from being emotional parasites serving under a power hungry queen. I wished we could have learned more about them without the (currently) bastardized comics.Also, Cadence/Brother outta nowhere was the beginning of the downward spiral imo

I watched FiM in order, but I never really had the enthusiasm during season 1 that I did for the rest of the show because it felt like a lot of the episodes were very predictable and didn't have much at stake. I also thought too many of the stories happened because of the characters making assumptions that didn't make sense. You know how everyone complains that Castle Sweet Castle relied on everyone but Twilight and Spike being idiots? That's how I felt about Look Before You Sleep and Bridle Gossip. It set up an interesting world and a good cast, there were a few standout episodes like Party of One and Cutie Mark Chronicles, and the comedy was generally better, but I still look back on it as a season that didn't take advantage of its possibilities nearly as well as the ones after it.
As for the other seasons, they're all different. Each one has strengths and weaknesses that its predecessor lacked.
