Correct. It is also an old idea that I wanted to attempt but never had any idea that "felt" good enough, until tonight. At first, they were supposed to meet during some sort of meeting of the different school clubs. But it was boring, there were too many other characters and it simply gravitated around the usual jokes of "Brad is a rapist, Mary a stoner, Axel is Judge Dredd and Sophie the straight-laced".
Then there was this picture. And how good it looked, how happy these two characters who barely interacted were. And it was eureka: "What could make these 2 laugh to tears?" from there, it went a little everywhere, but it felt good.

That's pretty much the idea I wanted to convey in that story.
I like to think that these 3 are in fact very similar in nature, they are 3 altruistics with different degrees of toughness earned from life experience. Mary had quite the unstable phase at one point of her life, now that she's out of it, she seeks to protect that quiet lifestyle, preferably with friends that would likely avoid trouble rather than seek it, she's the one who had it the hardest, but she has grown from it a lot while leaving her very sensible to betrayals.
Norm's experience with the whole racist-rumours toughened him pretty quickly, but he's still very optimistic.
Sophie thinks she knows the world, she has read a lot, talked with her mother, helped with the school councillor and the students council, she believes that this allowed her to understand the human mind better than her peers.
She isn't totally wrong, but a 75% of that knowledge is from second hand, she is the... greenest of the three and the one who needs guidance from the other two the most.
