One might say that he is a meme machine. Without memes, he will die.

There are good memes, and there are bad memes.

Discord has nothing to talk about, so he posts memes. Just like everyone on 4chan and KYM.
>>

>>
He's like Genie from Aladdin.

Because of his powers he can break the fourth wall and do literally (figuratively) anything. So he's an outlet for the writers to make as many references as they want.
>>

Literally nobody will remember this last episode for anything other than discord being bob ross and pinkie making a back to the future reference

Remember when the show was liked because of the narrative and character interactions instead of cheap pop culture references?
>>
>>25371762
If you need references to fill in the script and not just one line or a visual background gag, you know you're doing something wrong.

Because Discord, being the embodiment of Chaos, is capable of anything. On a whim. Which means he's aware of the fourth wall, and while the horses might not get it, he's acutely aware of the fact that we're watching this show.

And enjoys it.

This motherfucker is giving us, the audience, a direct nod. Letting us know that he knows. He's aware of us, and using our memes, our humor, to fuck with them. He's a literal fourth wall break.

He is Chaos itself. And what's more chaotic than a bunch of autists arguing on a board about what horse to impregnate? Oh, right. A thread on a board full of a bunch of autists bitching about why Discord is filled with chaos from across dimensions.

It isn't EXACTLY self-aware humor. It's more like he's mocking us, parodying things we ourselves have run into the ground.
>"Remember how you thought this was funny, and then it got ran into the ground? Well, here's your dead horse, guys. Look at it. Look at what you did."
>>
>>25371911
So the writers KNOW they're being unfunny asshats, but do it anyway just to be asshats. Gotcha.
>>
>>25371911
Wasn't this entire episode about how in-jokes can wear out their welcome?
>>
>>25371953
Exactly. It's no secret they've never liked the male fanbase, but at the same time, we're a large portion of their income. So they're trying to drive us off in the most blatant, but subtle way they can.

No, you dickmunching keklord, I mean the entire fanbase in general. They're TRYING to drive us off. We just don't let them.
>>
why is everyone so assblasted about this episode
1 "meme", 2 or 3 references, none of which went beyond discord's usual shtick with making shit appear whenever he wants.
Average to good character interactions and it showed that Discord actually is reforming, and Twilight got a legitimate lesson near the end. Not every episode has to be an epic fantasy adventure and this was a nice little slice of life episode.
>>
>>25372182
The problem is it's an old gimmick to have an omnipotent character make references. Discord was actually original during his first appearance, making in-universe jokes. Then the fans kept wanting Discord to be Q, and now he literally is.
>>
>>25372200
>They're TRYING to drive us off.

I try to look at his shift into referential humor as him reigning in his chaotic habits to some extent. As much fun as all that reality-warping visual humor from his early days was, that sort of shit would probably be awkward in what's supposed to be friendly conversation. I would like to think that if he had a reason to screw with somebody's head again, he would go back to those antics.

It's probably just increasingly lazy writing, though.
>>
>>25372313
I'm sure in an episode where he'd be feeling particularly neighborly.

The real question is, how much of discord's referential nature is actually in the script and how much is the animators taking creative liberties? It wouldn't surprise me at all if the script just asked for discord painting a picture at an easel and whoever the storyboard artist was decided that he should dress up as bob ross
>>
>>25372338
Just make it more... subtle. Like when Discord made it rain chocolate, he wasn't dressed like Tay Zonday. But you can bet if that reference was made today, you'd see him in a white shirt, glasses, and a microphone next to him. As of now, they play out like...

Jesus, man, it's like you enjoy being an autist. I'm not saying that Meghan's episodes are BAD, I'm just saying they're not as good. I'm in support of the wings. Twi's earned them. But since Meghan took control, the episodes simply aren't AS GOOD. Not everything's so black-and-white.
>>

>Why do you insist upon projecting your insecurities onto others

I don't and that's your job. WTF does 'fedora tier' even mean? Can you not communicate without LE MEMES?

>The episode was so terrible because of it's pathetic character interactions

Your opinion is just wrong. Twi had good interactions with Discord and Spike.

>>25372449
The episode's are better since Meg took over. S1 is cute but the dialog was a bit on the mellow side. I'm glad it's changed.
>>
>>25372449
>backpedaling
>>
>>25372490
The dialog was way more focused in season 1.

It's like you believe that the pony fandom would be made with season 3-5 content.

Which I vehemently disagree almost completely.
>>
>>25372490

>Episodes are better
Nigga what. The only possibly excusable reason you could say that, is because she's got more experience on the one particular show in discussion. Season one's dialogue was mellow because it was the first season. Still experimental towards the masses. I'm certain that if she'd had more time with it, Faust would have done as well, if not better, than Meghan McCarthy.
>>25372497
It's not backpedaling if you're clarifying your point. Like I said, not everything's so black-and-white.
>>
>>25372362
That's a good question, and it could probably extend to a lot of his visual gags. Or even which jokes get thought up during the storyboarding process.
>>
>>25372549
>The dialog was way more focused in season 1
It was plainer and more mellow, as >>25372553
helpfully points out. This is not 'better'. I prefer some wit and aplomb. Think of Silver Spoon's burn of DT. That kind of thing.

>>25372553
Nice backpedal there but I spotted it. You can't say 'the episodes were better' and then change it to 'well they might be better but they'd be even better with Faust in charge!'. That's goal-post shifting.

The contention that things would be better with Faust in charge is challenged by a lot of...little things I and many others have noticed over the years. I heard she had some interview a while back (with EVGA or something??) that was damning. Worse, she's a feminist. The creator of something can also ruin it. Lucas
>>
>>25372612

I never once said the episodes were better. I've maintained that the episodes were good, maybe as good, but it can't be denied that most of the time, when a series is taken over by someone else in the middle of the series like that, it has a small decline, because they weren't there to witness the 'birth' of it; they're coming in somewhere in the middle, and have to cram information in, and work within the parameters, as opposed to the original creator, who'd already have that knowledge and the original concepts behind the characters and setting, and therefore a more organic progression.

It's kind of like having Tabitha St. Germaine switch entirely from voicing Rarity, to suddenly having to voice Twilight Sparkle. Sure, it's good, but it's not quite the same.
>>
it all boils down to that they should have ended the series when they tried to, at S3
at least then there wouldn't be all this fucking bitching and complaining
be fucking grateful that they continued the show FOR the fandom
in other words, S4 and beyond, is them PANDERING to the fandom because the fandom made the show so a cultural phenomenon

>>

>>

meme: is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture"

reference: the action of mentioning or alluding to something

in the show, it's a reference

Stop being delusional and referring to the character as entity with self awareness. The writers themselves aren't self aware themselves, they're complete autistic idiots which belong in a psychiatric ward if they believe they're being funny, smart, witty.

If I ever hired them then I would do nothing but torture these CN hacks till they quit writing and admitted not only to me, but to the entire world that they do not belong in writing and that a 5 year old girl has more writing talent than them.
