It's my favorite too. At first I thought it needed to be two episodes but after thinking about it I think it was perfect. If it was a two parter people would KNOW something was going to happen. With it being the CMC there's only really one major thing that could have been.
However with how they did it, it felt like one surprise after another. Everyone assumes it'll be about the election. Maybe some cute moments at least, right? That gets resolved in seven minutes. Then Silver Spoon tells off Tiara really fucking well. Then the fillies made me feel like a bad person because despite Tiara being as bitchy as she was they wanted to make sure she was ok. They've got hearts of fucking gold and as much as I do my best to be kind to others I don't know if I'd be able to do that.
That brings us to the next major part of the episode, Tiaras mom and Tiara not liking who she herself is. This song got me misty eyed but I didn't all out cry. It made me feel bad for Tiara which I never though possible. I was in the "Worse than Hitler" camp. I sort of feel bad for not wondering if she just had a bad parent or life. I usually try to think that about people who are in a bad mood, or at least I'd like to. You always get that one person that just pisses you off so well you hold on to that spite, you know?
Tiara tells her mom off and FINALLY the CMC realize what they want to do. It wasn't that they didn't know their talents, I'm sure Sweetie knows shes a good singer, etc. This kinda shows that cutiemarks are more what the ponies want than some fate thing. I like that.
I actually want to see Tiara more often now, I think the cutiemarks are cute and the overall colors match with each one even if more so than others. While I feel there's enough purple to fit with Sweetie and enough warm tones to fit with Applebloom and Scoots, I would have liked the colors to be different. Perhaps make the shields color the fillies mane color, then the two inner marks the other CMCs mane color. Applebloom for example would have a red shield, Sweeties pink as the apple color, and Scoots purple as the heart. Would that have looked better while still keeping the basic idea of them always being friends?

Stop being stupid. It's not like they can only be good at one thing each. Nothing was "tossed". Apple Bloom's good at chemistry and housework/building, and she's also good at seeing goodness in others and trust. That's been shown to be a big thing for her since season 1, which I imagine is what the heart stands for. Either that, or the willpower she's so often shown to have. There's no contradictions in that. What would have been dumb and boring is if things turned out exactly as hinted in Show Stoppers. There's nothing dumb or confusing about her mark other than (arguably) the colors.
I'm not sure if I really understand Scootaloo's, but this definitely, clearly wasn't some last-moment thing they slapped on without thinking abut.

I think either way we would have been fine. Wasn't Scare Master episode 15, but aired out of order? They got their marks in episode 18, right? So regardless of the fuckup if their costumes had shown their flanks we would haven't been any the wiser since they still hadn't had them by then.

Their big growing up moment is refusing to grow up. Their special talent is not having special talents. I can't understand how anyone who's been watching these fillies since S1 can be satisfied by this, especially considering that it unceremoniously throws out every piece of foreshadowing about the CMC's special talents that's ever been given to us up to now. Sure, it wouldn't have been surprising if they had gotten the CMs that everyone expected them to get, but not everything has to have a twist ending.
The situation with Diamond Tiara is almost too depressing for me to think about. She deserved better than having such a tiresome, clichéd backstory shoehorned into her like that. The idea of her running for student president on a platform of replacing the playground equipment with a statue of herself, on which the entire plot of the episode hinges, is preposterous, and pinning her personality on a character who has never been seen, heard from, or even implied to exist up to now is a lazy cop-out.

The shield/crusader thing is their purpose/destiny, not their special talent. Their "real" marks are inside the shield and haven't been explained yet, though it's easy to guess what they mean. While it does seem that her father is a nice pony we don't know that for sure. If he is I don't see why her mother being shitty isn't believable. Uppity rich snooty people aren't unheard of.
I mean I get that you'd have liked it to be done better. For what it was, having a 22 minute air time which I find important for this episode because it keeps the continued surprises of DT's redemption and the cutiemarks actually surprising, they did great.
Everyone would like to see things fleshed out better. Hell I want to see the series continue for 5 more years if the writing stays at a decent quality. In the end though I also realize it's a cartoon. There's going to be cliches, there's going to be things that are done a bit quicker than some may want. Still comparing MMC to CotLM, I'd say CotLM was just done a hell of a lot better. Instead of Twilight fucking up, fixing her mess, and being rewarded for it, the CMC go out of their way to save a fillys soul from being a sad lonely bitter mess like her mother. Tiara never had to deal with failing AND losing her only friend before. Spoon had enough of her shit too.
I guess they could have based her redemption around that aspect alone, losing the only friend she ever had as a reason for her to look back and try to become a better pony. I still had fun with how they handled it. I'm sorry you disliked it though, but I hope any future episode with a kinder Tiara can entertain you.

I can see those reasons for disliking Rarity; I'm more enamored with season 1 and 2 of her. Recently she seems to be a bit of a caricature. I also didn't really like the Canterlot Boutique episode, because her dream was to run one and design for royalty and high nobility, not simply own one while living in rural Ponyville. Ah well.
I'm not sure I'll have time to write the Sweetie Belle fic for this thread. I actually love writing human x mare or human x filly stuff, and mlp is a pretty great place to post it.
I prefer romance, and anatomically accurate horses. You know there's lots of great material that can inspire man x mare works. I once thought about getting into drawing, but I've always preferred writing and written erotica compared to art. I feel it stimulates the brain more.
Anyway, Sweetie's certainly the more "genuine" of the Belle sisters. That's why I'd be open to being in a relationship with her, however it all depends on the factor of whether she's gone through estrus yet or not. Pursuing a filly who is too young goes against what I feel is appropriate, and frankly turns me off.

I'm not too much a fan of EQG but it can be alright. I find the plots of the movies to be a bit bland. Also, Sunset Shimmer gets such a large amount of attention when compared to the other girls. It's surprising to see how many fans she has garnered from the time of the first movie till now.

I remember back to when the fandom was going apeshit about Equestria Girls when it was first announced. I was one of the people in the minority that was actually looking forward to the spin-off franchise. The first movie wasn't spectacular like the last two but I still enjoyed watching it.

I can't say I felt the same about the eqg movies when announced. I did feel they were going to take away from the show, and I believe they have. I generally tend to look on the bright side of things. I don't think the Equestria Girls movies have taken away from the show at all. They are written and produced simultaneously alongside Friendship is Magic. While the sales for the girls department at Hasbro did make a huge leap thanks to the new Equestria Girls IP back in 2013, ponies are still going strong. We already have season 6 confirmed for next year and the MLP movie confirmed for 2017.
I do have a favorite of the Mane 6 and that would be Pinkie Pie. I'm big fan of her humor and energetic personality. I'd rather not derail the thread into lewd discussion but this is 4Chan so I can't really prevent it.

I should have figured it out when I determined it was a musical episode but I didn't. It caught me completely off guard though and I'm glad it did.
Even before CofLM aired, I was saying that Diamond Tiara would be redeemed =AND= the CMC would get their marks in the same episode. Even though I had guessed correctly, I still had a blast watching that episode anyway, wondering exactly how the writers were going to manage to do it all in just 22 minutes.
It was obvious from the official "blacked out" MLP promo poster that the CMC would get their marks this season. And VA Chantral Strang had tweeted that DT would get further character development in an episode that later turned out to be titled CotLM. Back in episode 12, Diamond Tiara's party was the reason the CMC met and her bullying caused them to form the CMC group, so it made sense to have DT involved when the CMC story arc came full circle. DT and the CMCs destinies seem to be tied together.
Of course, it would be interesting for DT to "fall off the wagon" and need some further "redeeming" from the CMC.
The VA's name is Chantal Strand.
