Pretty typical beach episode setup. After the changing scene a dog shows up and starts pulling the straps on everyone's bikini tops.... except excellen who is pretty offended that it didn't target her. Afterwards the girls tell stories in the hot spring. Excellen has some truth or dare style board game and she's rigging the dice rolls so that everybody but her has to do weird stuff. it backfires and at the end she has to drink one of Kusuha's health drinks. Got a quick question. I haven't played an OG game since SRW OG 2 on the GBA and was thinking about getting the Asian English version of Moon Dwellers. When you upgrade units, do you still have to upgrade each weapon individually, or is it like a mainline SRW now and you just have a single bar that upgrades all your attacks and weapons at once?

As boring as EX was it also had the novelty of showing MK stuff other than Masaki Lune and Shu. Characters and units that hadn't been seen in years, and many people were convinced would never appear again.
It also had the Guest a plot people had no idea was coming and expected in a much later game be a major part of the plot (MD has Alpha 3 but it's just cocktease of Calico and friends showing up once or twice to go "hahaha next game suckers" and that's about it).
And to top it all off it had Euzeth which nobody saw coming.
MD by contrast has minimal new stuff, and little to no surprises and non of them factor into the plot in a major way. The majority of the game is J which we knew since it's in the fucking title.

It's not SPECIFICALLY about the Alpha plot, but about the recurring plot in the OG games. In this case it was the Classic plot with DC, Inspectors and Guests, and Alpha with Balmarians. If a game failed to follow up on anything from that, and only includes new unrelated stuff, then that makes it Gaiden.
