As far as I've seen, it does slow down a bit but it hasn't really stopped being an action show. Not that I have a problem with this since the action is pretty good, though the Dyna Robo battles could be a bit better.
The main characters are far from being deep, but they're still pretty fun. I can't hate a Super Sentai with both a cowboy and a ninja.

He wasn't the only one crying. Kagura was probably the most sad in tears constantly. Even when they first started Tokatti ahd to help her hold back the tears. Mio and Tokatti also were on the erge of tears but seemed t more successfully hold them back. Hikari was also in tears, but that was backstage and when the camera focused on him he just started hiding his face behind the flowers.

This was kind of fucking weird when watching Akibaranger(the "Playing Gertrude" and "Dawson Casting" tropes):
-Akibablue 1 actress,born in Februari 1994 played the youngest member.
-But Akibayellow actress however was born in October 1995 and played the 2nd oldest member.
Even more stranger is that some actors were only 2/3 years younger than their characters in their respective installment/season and vice versa.
At least the Japanese are not extreme as USA(which is even more baffling,especially with Hollywood movies/tv-shows)!!

I've always just assumed they were right when they said it, but I've never really seen any "facts" for it.
I mean it's common knowledge most boys don't want to use girl roleplay toys, but surely that's not always the same for an evil ranger. There's no way there weren't kids who thought AbareKiller was fucking mad and wanted to pretend to be him, there was always at least one of those in my group, at least.
The most recent example I can think of of kids liking a "Bad" hero was Micchy in Gaim, his actor said he was surprised to have kids coming up to him at events cheering him on and that, so there's at least gotta be some kids.

Usually it's repeated that villains don't sell, and it's not just a japan thing. Less Decepticons in any given transformers line for instance.
Like many things about what sells and what doesn't, it probably doesn't come down to who's a villain or not but it's an easy thing for execs to point at (Mars Needs Moms and several other movies with "Mars" in the title bombed and that's why John Carter of Mars movie was just "JOHN CARTER") without using any critical thinking, basically a superstition.

Oh, the DX toys are still relatively easy to get. I'm talking about the minipla, which are pretty commonly available for everything except the Brothers. I don't give a shit about Mystic Brothers, but you need at least one of Landic, Seaic or Skyic to create Ground Gosei Great and you need all three to create Hyper. It was bad enough that I started trying to learn 3D modelling to print my own set instead of trying to find them online.
Boukenger's Gogo Jet has similar issues where it's very hard to find compared to the first nine machines, since I think it was released as part of a separate figure line.

It's a shame too, because Goseiger's minipla line is one of the highest-quality ever made. Incredibly high-quality articulation and color accuracy. I started collecting during airing with Gobus, which makes it much easier, but for anything before that you have to rely on Mandarake or Buyee.

ideas: use cool fish and sea creatures for the main five like manta rays, octopi crabs, sharks, nawhals, orcas, and smaller fish can be collectable weapons in clamshells or bubbles like hurracanger (jellyfish, sea urchins, electric eel could be either)
OR make the main three all sharks, saw hammer and great white
sixth could be out of theme like sea vehicles, galleon, deep sea scary fish like an angler fish and gulper eel, or maybe legends like a kraken or sea serpant, or ancients like pleisosaur, coalacanth, and Ammonite
Or best idea, green ranger gets the cthulluzord
There's enough directions to take the theme (atlanteans? treasure hunters? or maybe it's a parody season because fish has such a strong sushi connection) that they could do it multiple times, like what if there were sea life seasons following every dinosaur season
