Honestly I don't even feel like it was a mess, I think it knew exactly what it wanted to be and what it wanted to say, and it's just that we're so used to fiction being a certain way we kind of kneejerk to thinking something like SamFlam being what it is is "bad".
Not that I think it had an incredible execution, I'd honestly say it's an 8/10 with a heavy toku bias and 7/10 without, but still don't see the main story as a mess.Though I'll concede some of the side plots are a bit poorly handled at times.

I think it's really up in the air right now. Ghost has just as much potential to end on a high note as it has to crash a burn completely towards the end. Whether or not it's a "good" series I think depends on that outcome.
