***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

My Barbatos got to be the header image, nice!

Here's a hypothetical for everyone, if you were to move, or bring your models to shows or what have you, how do you transport your stuff?

I'm planning to move within the next couple of months, and I've been debating on how I want to transport all my models, with minimal damage. I figured just putting them in their original packaging would be too risky (since most boxes tend to be bigger than the actual model to fit all the runners), and they seem a by too bulky for gun cases (how I tend to store my /tg/-related miniatures). Any cost-efficient suggestions?
>>
Since you're worried about movement within the box, how about packing them with, oh, newspaper? May not be good if the ink rubs off, though, so maybe kitchen towels would be better.
>>
>>14096819
Disassemble into major bits (arms, legs, backpack etc) and layout in a line on top of a piece of newspaper. Roll it around and over the pieces, fit 3 HGs to an HG box and 2 MGs to an MG box typically. (outstanders like Neo Zeong etc does not apply)

This sounds like the best. I don't want newspaper ink running off on my models. That and you tend to get a metric shitton when you go shopping at all.

I'm also torn on whether I should save the boxes or just pick and choose and try to store as many as I can per box. My collection isn't massive, but it has grown over the years, so I have a lot of boxes, good for storage and moving, but there's a lot of empty space when it's just the MS in there. Dammit, Bandai, why do you gotta make HE boxes all pretty?
>>
>>14096867
Like I said, pack 2-3 to a box. Add extra padding inside the box to be safe.

For the other boxes, there is nothing wrong with cutting the cover art off and keeping just that, its flat too.
>>
>>14096871

DJ TRU! I should really take out all my gunpla and boxes one of these days, start packing everything besides what I'm working on, and get ready. It'll be a fun exercise in figuring out what I have and what is FUBAR enough to warrant becoming scrap.

In other news, I just realized where I can get 2 sets of generic Graze shoulders that aren't used in the model kit for Barbatos form 2 and 3! Turns out the Carta Ritter comes with a set that the model doesn't even use, and the color's no problem because I'll have to paint them blue and white anyway. Now I have a reason to buy 3 Graze Ritters just to be able to reenact her death fight!

Wrap each model in a shirt or two then pack then in a box.
Worse case Ontario they get a little dismembered in their package but the pieces will all be in there.
The best part is, not only have you packed your fragile items but your clothes aswell!
Getting two birds stones at once
>>
>>14096933

I have the EVA-02 of that series. It's an interesting build, to say the least. I thought the rubber elbows with pieces already inside were a neat gimmick, but it severely limits articulation in the elbow to only about 45 degrees. Also, has color detail between an HG and a MG, so be prepared to paint small details like the face and hands.

If you only want those for the weapons, you might wanna go Daban instead.
After looking through the runners, Dragon Momoko's halberd is only one solid piece while Daban's has some neat part separations.
The lance is about the same though and up to preference.
They're also considerably cheaper, about the price of an IBO HG.
I too got it only for the lance/halberd and also the shield and some other parts for a custom.

Finally a day off and not too tired and make some small test build progress, then Wada Kouji dies ;_; RIP man.

>>14096819
When I had to move and store my gunpla in a box to be in a suitcase that would be thrown around by airport staff, I separated the limps before hand, wrapped them in the clear pockets that packs your original runners, with loose sheet of tissue in between (for example, between left and right legs, so the least paint scratching can occur). For MGs I just separated as much as I could and individually wrapped them. Filled the box with these wrapped parts and crunched up paper filling the box space so nothing moved around as I shook the box after closing. Hoped for the best, and none of my plamo got damaged.

Obviously for kits with large delicate things like V-fins, take them off and pack them separately in a small box of similar things to be in the bigger box.

Just got done with my test model. I call it my test model because its the first one I've ever painted.
I used brushes and spray paint, both Testors enamel.

I know it looks shitty but like I said it was just a trial and error thing to learn what works and what doesn't.

If anyone has any tips for me I would really appreciate it. Or if you feel like telling me how shitty it looks, I'm fine with that to.
>>
>>14097542

the green looks good but you got lazy with the handpainting; you chose not to thin the paint or mask and it shows
>>
>>14097490
A Hidden Shadow of G resin kit
>>
>>14097542

also white on another color is tough to do, in generally you want to paint the kit white first, then mask the parts you want white, then paint the other color (green here)
>>
>>14097547
I definitely get what you mean by thinking I got lazy, but I promise it wasn't that, I just dont know how to properly thin the paint. I got those tiny bottles of the enamel, and didn't want to thin it too much, so I didn't at all. Any tips?

>>14097553
Thank you kindly, Ill try and do that next time. Thats a good idea.
>>
>>14097565

Just pour a bit out on a dish, cap etc. and mix a little bit of thinner with it and brush. You don't need to pour it in the bottle.
>>
>>14097570
Ohhh good idea. Thanks. How many drops do you usually do, if I may ask?
>>
>>14097572

It depends, start with 1 drop of thinner for each 2 drops of paint. You can go up to 1:1 if you want, or even 2:1. For hand painting details I think something closer to 1:2 thinner to paint is probably right.
>>
>>14097609

I'm not even going to reverse search because that is the fakest shit I have ever seen

So I finally had nice enough weather to topcoat Gusion. I guess it's finally time to paint and build 6th Form.

I'm still mad that I got yellow on Ryusei-go's rifle. I don't have any thinner, so I've been trying to scarpe and sand it off constantly, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

So what do you guys think? How badly did I fuck up?

>>
>>14098087
i quite like the rebake, would be nice with ryuseigo's or carta graze's shoulders
>>
>>14098197

It's shoulders are actually what attach to the torso. You'd have to replace the entire arm with the graze or some other mobile suit's shoulder. Only reason is because the peg in the shoulder bit that connects the bicep to the torso on the graze is too short to fit in the Gusion arm well, while the Barbatos shoulder bit is too thin and won't stay snugly.

I just tried both of them and it didn't really fit well going from the two shoulder pieces to the Gusion bicep.

Ebay.

Unless its P-Bandai.
>>

If you think the RG GP01 is flimsy, you should see the RG Zeta. It's also a downscaled version of the perfect grade, with all the same types of transforming hip mechanisms except less than half the size they were meant to be.

Would it be really stupid to put a fuck ton of thrusters on a Guntank to make a "Guntank High Mobility Type"? I mean, it isn't like it needs MORE GUNS for a custom.

Because the temptation to do it is yell to "fuck you, Tomino, Guntank can function in space just fine! Legs are just for show."

Granted, i guess the "proper" way to do it would be to get rid of/hide the threads entirely and basically turn it into a mobile armor.

I'm still trying to figure out how high-heeled shoes are "more stable for the Earth." The only few times I've ever worn them I've felt more unstable than anything.

How's my progress on Barbie number 6 guys?
>>
>>14100110
Oh, I see. That certainly sounds fun; I have a lot of kits to throw at this sort of thing.

>>14100116
Well, high heels aren't suited for the Earth, because in addition to stability issues they increase surface pressure and the chance you'll go clean through the surface of whatever you're stepping on.

The original high heels were developed to shape women's legs and basically force them to walk primly and elegantly. A more humane version of the Chinese footbinding method, basically.

Scopedog feet would be the most reasonable form of mecha feet, IMO.
>>
>>14100140

I know, that's why I'm so confused why Eco chose to give Barbatos heels when they landed on Earth. What was the tactical advantage of this? Hell, it's even hard to get him to stand sometimes.

My mkII, 00R and Exia aren't hand grenades at all. Especially the 00R.
>>
>>14100159

My only quip with RG Exia is that his legs seem to like to run off and play somewhere else all the time. I really like the model, it's just the legs that don't like to play nice. It's the same with my sister's Destiny (she really likes it when I give her models cool poses). Maybe it's the type of plastic their inner frames share, not sure.

But my friend's RG 00Russer seems pretty stable. They Raiser rings on the twin engines like to be difficult, but otherwise it's pretty solid.

MK II on the other hand is solid af. There's nothing I do to it that makes it fall apart much to at all. I have to say the MK II/NT-1 are probably my two all time favorite UC mobile suits, and this just adds to that!

The actual kit of the G-Self by itself is kind of nice, but you can really see how they really went cheap in some places, and it has an inordinate amount of stickers for a HG kit, from what I've experienced. What I don't understand is why they didn't make the back of the hand pieces white in the first place, but molded it in grey/black and gave you a white sticker to cover it with.

The gating was really nice though, I recently did it and the Freedom Revive, and compared to kits like the V-Dash they have really nice gating that leave minimal nubs and marks afterwards.

But I just guess a lot of the G-Reco designs just don't translate well into High Grade kits, like with a lot of the Zanscare kits
