***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

I asked this in the last thread but then image spamming. Any recomendations for ideas of what to practice on? I'm fairly new and not all that great but I want to practice my techniques. so I was going to get a temporary set of tools at a local hardware while I try stuff out and had some questions considering i'm not going to have a huge selection
Is a #17 blade a big deal or can I just pick up any x-acto brand knife and be good to go?
also what's the general term for cutters, i.e. when I ask someone at the store should I refer to them as side cutters? flush cutters? wire cutters?

>>
Weird how shitposter is trying to push that /toy/ meme
>>
>>13731011
Sprue cutters. If they don't understand that then say flush cutters. You DON'T want actual wire cutters. X-acto knife types do matter, each blade is different. The general consensus to my knowledge was blade type 11 and 17. Get sand paper also, to make sanding sticks. A low grit (400-600) and medium (1000) should be ok, and there's 1500-2000 if you really want to be redundant.
>>
>>13731022
I'd get 2000 grit sandpaper, personally I feel like ~1000 isn't fine enough.
>>
>>13731020
wire cutters

Just use nail clippers and save money to either invest in proper tools or because you don't enjoy plamo
>>
>>13731026
Well, it depends mainly on if you want to paint or not, if it's not being painted you can't go wrong with more grit climbing. But for painting I believe 1000 is enough.

So how many hours would you guys say it takes you to build an MG kit.

The one I'm working on I've been doing for about 18 hours so far.
>>
>>13731145
Three days. Rather take my time and build when I want to, then rush and make a mistake
>>
>>13731145
Shortest work I've ever done was my MG X, it took me... six hours I think off the top of my head.

On average however, it takes me a few hours for around four days.
>>
I'm currently looking into adding in some LEDs to my MG Banshee, and I was wondering if there was a guide somewhere that shows the most optimal way to wire and power the lights. I'm debating if I want to leave it stock, or do a psycho frame switch with my unicorn or not.
>>
>>13731203
Personally I'd say frame switch.

Make a Black/Red Banshee with gold accents. Then do a Gold/White Unicorn, make it elegant as fuck looking.

The feet and the red parts on the legs come from the AGE-2 Normal and Double Bullet respectively, the head is from an AGE-1 with the v-fin cut off and the horns trimmed from the cut v-fins. The face mask is just pla-plate. All I'm missing is a chinese fan that I'll probably just get from a SD Sangokuden kit.

Also it's based off a lesbian using an ancient Chinese mirror fueled by the power of love who was brainwashed to go fight her best friend. Just your usual /m/ backstory

Alright, two really newbie questions, but should I get Tamiya Extra Thin for all the seam line cleaning I plan to do or should I get some of the regular stuff as well? Also, how the FUCK do you paint over clear parts without priming them?
>>
>>13731341
You can scuff the surface of the clear parts with sandpaper to give the paint something to grip to, but really primer is the way to go
For cement I use the normal stuff first then use the thin stuff to get any areas that didn't get enough

Never encountered a third-party kit of it's quality before. Fit is good, if a little tight in some places. Inner frame is not that impressive, but the parts and color separation more than make up for it. And the moulded itself is cast in a slightly metallic way. Manages to look dark and intimidating but elegant and shiny at the same time.

The only downside is the wrist joints are barely strong enough to hold up the weapons properly. But that can be overcome with the old superglue on the ball joint trick.

Would recommend

i dont think anyone here even has one yet, most reviews show its pretty poseable in most areas an is loaded with gimmicks but im sure the transformation just makes it rediculously fragile, even if it is simplier than the MG Victory. Dalong only gave V2 97 points while Victory got 108, so theres something there that pulled it down.

im waiting for the innevitable V2AB release, even if its P-Bandai.

Been a while since I've been in Gunpla/Plamo General, been on hiatus from gunpla because real life won't restock kits that I like at my locals stores. So while I try to catch up, here's a few questions:

- Why the fuck does the HG Stupid Fumina have no actual forearm gatling guns??

- Why the hell does the HGBC Lightning Back Weapon System Mk. II have no missle pod parts??

- Why did the MG RX-78-2 Origin not come with a Core Pod when the GFF metal composite did?

- Why the fuck is the Hambrabi NOT an amphibious mobile suit when it's clearly designed to look like a Manta Ray.

- Why does bandai still not release clear parts in transparent, colorless, clear plastic so that we can easily just paint it any color we want??

- Why the fuck does bandai refuse to release actual HG model kits of other cool mobile suits/gundams?? (ex.: Le Cygne, Hecate, Striker Custom, Woundwort, Hazel Rah, Psycho Doga, 2nd Victory, Jet Aegis from Seed:Re Manga, Testament, Hildolf Wilde Sau, Nyaia, Shaldoll Scout, Cherudim Gundam Saga, Great Zeong, HG Seravee Gundam II, GGV-000 Barbatos/Valvados, Command Astray, Full Burst Psycho, Plutone, Gundam Artemie, Descem Mode X, Captain, Hyper Captain, etc.)

There's probably more, but can't remember right now. These are the one that piss me off the most.

Feels kinda stiff in some places, and some of it feels pretty frail. Some things falls off quiet easily on mine(white guards above the red elbow points, wings pops out). And I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, but it doesn't hold the gun all too well, only the thumb can move around too.

>- Why the fuck does the HG Stupid Fumina have no actual forearm gatling guns??
it was an ugly gimmick on the Cardigan so not much of a loss there.

>- Why the hell does the HGBC Lightning Back Weapon System Mk. II have no missle pod parts??
it was an extra weapon that wasnt used very often, im guessing they were planning on adding them into another weapon set but never did.

>- Why did the MG RX-78-2 Origin not come with a Core Pod when the GFF metal composite did?
simplify the chest assembly gives it better mobility. they might be planning on changing the Core Pods design for the OVA so they dont want to have a kit with the wrong parts like what happened a couple times in Unicorn.

>- Why the fuck is the Hambrabi NOT an amphibious mobile suit when it's clearly designed to look like a Manta Ray.
are you telling me Manta Rays cant operate in space?

>- Why does bandai still not release clear parts in transparent, colorless, clear plastic so that we can easily just paint it any color we want??
they used to in HG 00 kits, it was a pain in the ass since not everyone has clear parts laying around. you needed 3-4 clear paints just to get HG 00 Raiser accurate, its easier just to color them.

>- Why the fuck does bandai refuse to release actual HG model kits of other cool mobile suits/gundams??
most of your examples are obscure non-canon game or manga suits or variants of kits from series that already didnt sell very well and would shelfwarm just like the others.

>>13734010
gunmetal, X-10 or TS-38. same stuff on my MG Turn A's frame.

>>13734022
Captain Gundam is a SD, not a HG. Besides Bandai likes to pretend that series doesnt exist anyway.
>>
>>13734033
Maybe, you could rotate it another 90 degrees counterclockwise and it'd be upside-down.
>>
>>13733986
>- Why the fuck does the HG Stupid Fumina have no actual forearm gatling guns??

Because the manual encourages you to further enhance with the GM Cardigan

>- Why the hell does the HGBC Lightning Back Weapon System Mk. II have no missle pod parts??

It's on the MK 1, slap them on the Mk 2.

>- Why did the MG RX-78-2 Origin not come with a Core Pod when the GFF metal composite did?

The MG release is the just the Gundam in the first stages of The Origin. Did you even read the manga? The Core Pod, space equipment, and magnetic coating parts are part of the Gundam's later incarnation.

>- Why does bandai still not release clear parts in transparent, colorless, clear plastic so that we can easily just paint it any color we want??

You've been living under a rock. They've been doing regular clear parts for ages and are actually now going the other way and having correctly colored clear parts.
>>
>>13734029
i forgot where the missiles were, remember that that backpack was designed to be an add-on set to be bought seperately and used as few parts as possible, so they cut back on the gimmicks on those add-on sets.

Super Fumina comes with the gatling gun barrels on its weapons runner, if you really want them you can add them yourself. does it even use them in the anime? i never finished Try and they might just be a feature left over from the Cardigan design and not actually functional.
>>
>>13734048
>it was an ugly gimmick on the Cardigan so not much of a loss there.
yeah but it would've worked for the fumina at least...

>are you telling me Manta Rays cant operate in space?
that's actually hilarious in the literal sense so I accept your rebuttal.

>most of your examples are obscure non-canon game or manga suits or variants of kits from series that already didnt sell very well and would shelfwarm just like the others.
you gotta admit though, the suits I listed are pretty cool. also didn't everyone want a hecate?
>>
>>13734076
>Super Fumina comes with the gatling gun barrels on its weapons runner, if you really want them you can add them yourself.
You can't. They're even X-ed out on the fumina's manual. plus the attachment of the Cardigan and Fumina's arm gatlings are different (different pegs, also different size housing. fumina has smaller arm gatlings.).
>>
>>13734098

You need to at the very least, decal and line a PG before you can declare finished dude. I hurt my neck checking it out but it looks like you did a good enough job with the nubs, keep going.

Can recommend the PG Strike, Mk. II, GP01/fb, and the Astray Red Frame if you like the suit. I have heard mixed things about the SF and 00 Raiser. Grandaddy, Zaku, Zeta and WZC seem to suffer from problems ranging from bad preportions, lackluster accessories, and just plain being old as crust.

even the black is going to be better than nothing, And it will still be noticable on the dark blue that makes up the majority of the kit. Its dark but its not THAT dark. Alternatively you could try silver if you can find a pen.

You have a berserk mode nobel anon? Would you be interested in selling or trading it? I'm big on the G-Gundam kits and its one of the ones I'm missing.

This looks so awful. Those tan parts make the whole thing look like a kit with unpainted resin conversion parts snapped on.

Thanks guys, i was just asking about G Gundam kits in general. I think i'll look into an HG Shining Gundam. That one was my favorite anyway.

Finished God Gundamu, mostly half assed while watching some anime. i remember everyone telling me not to get it, i agree its old and dont like its limited movement but Erupting Burning Finger is the tightest shit.

unfortunately the head cams above the eyes were fucked whats a good way to use those? the only green marker i have doesnt match and just makes a mess around the area.

Hg shining is pretty fun to build and you get a giant shining finger hand that goes over the normal sized shining finger, coolest feature in my opinion

Resin kits are YELLOW. That thing is "tan", fool. I actually like it better that way. At least it doesn't have cloven hooved toes or sharp, high heel feet.

Plus if it actually is Gusion parts then maybe I'll make it my headcanon Gusion Gundam. cause unlike "Gusion toad", this one actually looks like a gundam.

What's a good base kit to make a stealth Gundam?

Something that is slender and mobile.

I was thinking of Nadleeh or Seraphim, but those kits don't get printed anymore.

I'm tempted to ask for a price but I'm interested in building it, sorry. I'm sure yours is out there, waiting for you.

Yeah, hopefully someone puts one up on mandarake soon. I got a rising recently for about 20 bucks including EMS shipping.

>>13734912
Wowie, I might pick that up too! I don't mind if they're old, I just want to build the suits I liked when I was little. That'll probably help me through it.

Why are space pirates and space ninjas okay but not space samurai?
