Makes me wonder if the Combatmen will get updated. In universe you think Shocker after so many defeats would upgrade the mooks, especially when Great Leader himself even went out of the way to kill them all ages ago because he thought the original Shocker was too weak.
But I gues the reality of it is the mooks have become a parody of themselves and people enjoy that. Plus the suits are probably the cheapest they can produce that anybody can wear, which is good when you need dozens of them at a moment's notice. Hence filming crew even wearing them as the leaked photo of a combatmen helping #1's suit actor out of his suit after filming suggests.

It's a slight golden rule amongst actors - at least it was at the time I was involved - that when you're a Shocker Combatman, you cannot have common sense or even a good sense of hearing. You gotta mix everything up, misunderstand orders, and basically only cooperate with other Combatmen. It was a very fun form of improv, as it was the closest you'd get to a less bullshit deus ex machina in the show. Like... a monster could tell us "Hey, disarm that guy!" and we can just repeatedly go "EEEE!?" because we don't understand him fully and it results in a lot of goofy exchanges like "THAT GUY! THE ONE THERE!"
Can't do that with many other mooks though.

Less annoying ones, yes. The reasoning behind it came from the fact you don't see converted humans going "EEE!" or having most of the same mannerisms as Combatmen, so they probably don't understand or think the same way as one. As a result, communications get mixed up. We can't completely forego and derail the story, of course, but we're allowed to mess up every now and then. There's actually a soundboard behind most stages just for that, and they have the voice actors pre-record lines getting angry and all that so it can be handled on the fly. A lot of stage show materials are pre-baked, but every show is unique in terms of execution.

Takatora attempted to teach Micchy a philosophy of noblesse oblige, the idea that it's the duty of those with wealth and power to serve the best interests of those without. From Micchy's perspective, that meant "you don't get to do what you want to do". It was stifling and chafing, that's why he joined the Beat Riders in the first place. It also meant he saw Takatora as a sucker, a position reinforced when he began to see how Ryoma and others could easily take advantage of his naivete. All this led him to believe in a worldview where you're either a con or you're a mark. Kouta was a mark, Takatora was a mark, Micchy wanted to be a con. Ryoma, then Redyue, then Ryoma again were able to get him to do whatever they wanted by convincing him that this was his way in, this made him one of the smart guys.
What he didn't understand was that the worst you can do to an honest man is kill him. Takatora and Kouta got beaten up, or acted on incomplete or misleading information, but they had their conviction and their dignity intact no matter what happened because they were always honest. They were never led astray from their core principles of what they wanted to do. A worse con than you is the best mark because you can make them do anything you want. You can make them lie, you can make them steal, you can make them shoot their best friend in the back, you can make them sell out their whole species, you can convince them to just hand over the treasure everyone's seeking. Ryoma lied to Takatora and then tried to kill him when he found out. He made Micchy do exactly the opposite of what he'd started out wanting and convinced him along every step of the way that it was for his own good.

ZO is great with some absolutely kickass fight-scenes (like that one stop-motion one against the giant spider lady) but the story is pretty nonsense and hard to follow.
J on the other hand has an awesome story with a really cool premise, and the main Rider probably being one of the most unique of the Showa Riders.
