His weak feelings on the matter are part of his character, and in such a situation not many people would immediately be ready and willing to take full responsibility for what they've done and apologize properly. That stuff's not easy for everyone, and they reflected that well through his character. The only thing that I found bad about that was the presentation.
I also consider Hibiki having enough faith to try and start things over without completely offering herself to him on a plate(even with that scene where she literally bends over for him)to be one of the few good things about the redemption arc, as that is consistent with her character in a world where Miku, Chris, Genjuro etc. have not yet confronted her about her issues or tried to help her with them. If he does show up again (which I seriously doubt, because people were clearly not happy iwth him), then I hope Kaneko will show a continuation of those issues instead of just handwaving them away and saying "oh, the end of GX handled everything, you can check everything else out in the keywords".

Yes, they characterized him as a scumbag well, but the good stuff ended there. His interactions with other characters, their lack of criticism of him, and the course of his redemption were some of the worst things I've seen in fiction.

This was another issue, as given their pasts together they never should have neglected her like that. The entire plot bending over backwards to accommodate Kaneko's redemption for topdad was handled with all the grace of quadraplegic trying gymnastics.
