Shuu isn't meant to be defeated. His mech has an all-barrier against Ranged attacks (so your best attacks are a no-no), and will run away after 2 or 3 turns.

Well I was talking about X/Y, when you added it up considering evolutionary lines there was actually only like 30 new Pokemon in Gen 6. In fact there was barely more than one or two per type and they still saw fit to re-tread old type combinations so we barely got anything new.

Also Platinum and BW2 did more in terms of expanding the game by changing up movesets, in Platinum's case it actually broke the game...ORAS virtually changed....nothing in terms of moves.

Gen 2 had the excuse that it was basically just a expansion pack for Gen 1. Everything in Gen 2 was just leftover stuff from the cutting room floor they couldn't fit in because of limitations. Funnily enough I think they actually amongst the weakest Pokemon in the ENTIRE series for pure stats. Their base stat totals only amount up to like 390, only fully evolved stuff weaker than that are Kricketune, Delcatty, Dustox and Farfetch'd.

I love rushbird's design and the general concept of the unit, but its attacks are pretty boring, even with all the cut-in hype, it's just a bunch of beams and a punch, and the punch is the most exciting of them.

And the combination attack is incredibly lame and could have just been a shine spark move to the same effect.

I'd have been okay with it if it were a bit more of a direct knockoff of zeorymer, with flashes and waves and shit instead of just big destruction beams with a backpack combination finale.

Why would you even bother with Compact 2? Even with the frameskipping set as high as it'll go you'll be playing it for at least a month since it's almost 100 stages long and you still can't turn off the animations. You really should save the longer games for later.

Alpha 1 at least has skippable animations and a really fast first third. Plus with the way you play favorites and your love affair with mapws the lategame won't be any trouble at all for you.

Perhaps more skills? Maybe mix up their units like older SRWs used to do so they have more kinds of units to throw at you? I mean, the Chiram probably could have used beefer units in SRWZ1, I can't remember thinking about them other than morale fodder.

The Nadesico has 4 parts slots. It's easy to make it unhittable too.

Not even with parts. Just favorite Nadesico, max its Mobility, and dump your BP into Evasion instead of Defense.

That said, I wouldn't increase the Nadesico's Mobility beyond what's required for the FUB and Yurika's Evasion in J. I'd like the enemy to actually fucking move. In W, it's fine, because the enemies won't ignore you if they have a 0% chance.

I think the current AI targeting by proximity followed by "can this target counterattack at this range or not?" is fine. The problem is grunts are laughably weak 95% of the time.

It could be like:
Battleship if it's in range and there are no other targets inbetween the grunt and the ship > Nearest unit that can't counterattack if possible > Nearest target, if multiple are in range randomly pick one

And then slight variations if they're grunts that rush in or hang back and shoot. The ship targeting one is important because it might actually put you at risk of a game over for once but still easy enough ti protect the ship.

Grunts having combo attacks like the Barolls did could be useful but dear god I hope their ODE System never rears its ugly head again. The new Command thing in Z3 is an okay way to handle it if enemies weren't so accurate in the first place, especially bosses. It should only apply if they're within range of the command unit unit, like a leadership aura.

Ranged grunts with Hit&Away might be neat.

The problem with balancing around upgrades is that you don't know the player's preferences and chances are there might be a situation where the game could be impossible to beat because player x didn't upgrade unit y enough.

Its much easier to use no upgrades as a baseline difficulty and scale up/down depending on how hard the game is.

I can call bullshit on that since I did a no upgrade run in K and got all secrets possible in a single run. You just needed a crit or two which is easy enough to fish for in a game which has optimized save scumming.

I actually think FMW had a more clever solution to the SP regen abuse thing, there was one buyable pilot skill you could get there called 'Extend' which I don't believe has had a SRW incarnaiton.

Basically what it did was upon reaching 150 power/morale you'd instantly regen 20% of your total SP. It acted as a useful buffer allowing you to throw up a early focus or alert during mook sweeping whilst avoiding cutting into your SP pool for boss fighting later. But because of the requirement it only worked for the early/mid game making it tough to abuse.

It is a bit dire, however, when the game's negative elements end up being such a drag for you that you don't actually play past the first quarter of the game.

A lot of elements about it felt boring, dry, and just uninteresting. It was honestly entirely a matter of the series list.

For me, SRW Z1 was propped up by the fact i had a cool, interesting, and new mix of series that meshed well together.

Meanwhile, the last entry in the series could have really done with trimming a lot of the fat and getting rid of some useless entries that felt boring and unnecessary, Macross Frontier.

How many times do I have to deal with Sheryl and Ranka? Okay, cool, Basara is here, and there's some stuff to help prop it up and make it a more interesting mix but how many times must I keep doing it

I mean, a little bit more difficult than the VS stage of Z1. Because as much as I enjoyed it, I destroyed the whole gang of rebels on my first playthrough. The Glomer went down once Testuya threw the Great Booster at it, WITHOUT hot blood.

The Wing units started as enemies in 64? It's been ages sense I played 64. I just remember a few things. Like Robo Genrei, Shotaro in a little space suit hanging off Giant Robo during space stages, and Master fucking Asia one-shotting a fully upgraded defending Giant Robo

64 was good times. Weird final level. It was sort of anti-climatic.
