And why?

Don't forget that @G is still technically a beta with untranslated graphics everywhere, weird bugs, untranslated library, etc. Not a deal breaker by any means, but worth considering.

If we're counting OG1/2 in this discussion, Atlus clearly had to compromise a lot of stuff due to lack of time and support from Banpresto. They couldn't even get a variable-width font, let alone text box extensions. There's a lot of script weirdness and inconsistencies compared to other GBA games they released around the same time period, too.

J's probably the cleanest overall finished product, but it is kind of boring...

Nah, I just did it because it was fun

The Hitrate's not any more fucked than any other Pre-accuracy Stat SRW I think, although it has AP problem of having the "+Hit" modifier on Attacks be rather low overall.

Also because the Supers have some fucking tragic Accuracy stats, like "30 points below your Reals" level of sad.

Anyway beat Compact 3 in like 5 days so that's a nice breeze. Don't know where the "Compact 3 is super terrible like Shin!!!" idea comes from, as far as fun factor goes I place it around the weaker GBA games.

My thoughts on it are
- I hope you really love Dunbine, because I swear most of the missions are Dunbine related.

- They definitely rushed the game out before it was "done"... either that or it was probably intended to be part of a series like the 3 "Compact 2" games.

- There's a surprising amount of unique skills that I think was a bit of a prototype for what would eventually become unique ACE bonuses in future games. Not that they matter when you're solo-ing with Apothoesized TE but its the thought that counts?

- OMEGA MISSILE and Stealth Cloak were like the boogeyman of the game but they didn't end up being game ruiners like I expected. The Missiles are really stupid and will usually just hit 1 or 2 units for roughly 2500-3000 damage instead of wiping your team with proper positioning and my memory tells me Escaflowne enemies only really appear in like 3-4 missions? Aura Barriers are more of an issue considering the prevalence of Dunbine

- The units implemented is actually decent given the very small roster.

cont'd

On the new "never appearing again ever" series:
Escaflowne: Underdeveloped but the MC Escaflowne unit is a decent "Jeigan" and his attack range + power feels kind of modern compared to other units.

Mechander Robo: Kinda sucky for a 3-man unit - terrible Hit stat means it can't hit the broad side of a barn without Strike but only 1 guy has it and it's the guy with Valor.

Pretty crap attack ranges too - Winkysoft tier "lots of Range 1 attacks" and the 2-5 attack has a whooping 5 Ammo.

Acrobunch: Joins late, is really good, feels fresh compared to COMBATTLER V

Betterman: Jokes about the titular character not joining aside (OE BIT CLOUD JOKE), this series is actually handled decently gameplay wise - it has an actual upgrade curve of a customizable 2-pilot Reals which can turn into a Repair/Resupply unit which upgrades by getting an additional sub-pilot seat and flying.

My only issue is that they also join a bit too late for no good reason and mostly just shows up as a tease for like 2 missions in the early game before they finally join for real like 2/3s into the game.

So out of all of them I would say Betterman is the one I look forward to coming back.

Also I think it has the best track in Compact 3.

>The Hitrate's not any more fucked than any other Pre-accuracy Stat SRW I think
You really only needed S terrains and maybe 200-300 PP in your Hit stat (depending it's an oldtype or super pilot) in @2 and 3 to fix most of the accuracy issues. And the accuracy modifiers were nicer, although parts were pretty stingy, but at least @3 had Special Mode.

>although it has AP problem of having the "+Hit" modifier on Attacks be rather low overall
AP was made while Banpresto was asleep at the wheel since they were busy with Z1. I don't know if that was the case with C3.
>>
This stage is fucking killing me it won't let me get the Auge
>>
>>13547630
@3 is hardly an example of "non-fucked accuracy," though. Hell, I've seen enemies with sub-20% hit chances on fucking Mazinkaiser without upgrading its mobility or Kouji's evasion. That really shouldn't happen.
>>
What's the longest you've ever taken on a stage in SRW? I got sidetracked a few times, and had to take an asston of screenshots/webms for it, but the last stage of Alpha Gaiden took like 4 hours real time since I was actually planning shit instead of going balls to the wall for once. resupply module

Units A and B have the ability to resupply and have flight (in that case I had both battleships)

Turn X:
Unit A moves next to unit B
Unit B resupplies Unit A

Turn Y:
Unit B moves next to unit A
Unit A resupplies Unit B

and repeat because a resupply of a unit at around the same level is 200 EXP.

but when a low level unit resupplies a level 99 unit it gets like 800 EXP until around level 91.

This was some of the people I got to level 99 but I do know recall the final count of level 99 people by the end. My quicksave file is at the very end but it's12:15 AM and I work later today.

I will try to see if I can take a pic shortly after I get home.

Man, Virtual-On. When I hit that stage in Alpha 3, my first SRW game experience, I had no idea I'd suddenly get flashbacks to an arcade game I loved to play when I had the chance, but hadn't played in years thanks to the machine being removed.

Considering we got the ART-1, and the SRX Project didn't get shelved for years in OG like it did in Alpha? Banpreios isn't going to be a last minute panic move that has to be superglued permanently together just to work.

Yeah, they've been foreshadowing Banpreios being full power in OG since...well, Alpha 3. I mean, the end of that game straight up has "Oh man Ryusei, if only Banpreios was full power, we could go to different dimensions! Too bad...but...someday..."

They figured out how to make the SRX work with the twin system, so there's no reason NOT to include the AR-series. It's pretty obvious they wanted to have them in Alpha 3, with Rai/Aya/Mai all being fully statted out and everything, but couldn't do it for whatever reason. Now they can.

Hayato is proficient with throwing knives. That harmonica he uses? It's also a deadly projectile, IIRC he slices the head of a snake off with it once. He also kills two Dinosaur Empire footsoldiers who were (at the time) disguised as thugs, without knowing they were Dinosaur Empire.

Ryoma's not as bad, but he did once kill a bunch of sharks with Hayato.

Just don't pick male Super. It's worth noting 64 has fucking metric SHIT TON of secrets, like even with all the in game secrets there are still even more secret cameo units you could get through the link battler feature. Unfortunately you need a special saves to import those into the game, F91 Gundam, Zambot 3 and Goshogun are only obtainable this way.

When it comes to theme songs at least the male and female reals (Arklight and Selain) probably have the best themes.

Also 64 in general is up there for one of the best SRW soundtracks, it had some pretty fantastic mixes. It also had karaoke mode so another thumbs up for 64.

>>13548270

>>
>>13548295

>>
I have a terrible feeling I can't cheat my way to having the pilots/robots unlocked for the transfer.

>>
>>13548298
The combo of the male super and his rival goes up to 9920 power (with both finishers maxed). The female super's finisher only goes to 6000 power.
>>
>>13548304
The problem with THAT is that it's the Winkysoft era, and the only way to gain Will is basically to kill things.

Also, remember that this is a combo, meaning you have to field TWO mechs that have fuck all range and have to get their Will boosted for their one big trick.
>>
>>13548315
+1 Morale to all members for killing enemies not in Winkysoft era games?

And?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpFWW6Q_dLI
>>
>>13548319
It is, although I seem to remember some people not even getting that in certain games. Probably not the case there.

Of course, the problem with that is that the enemies will gain Will at the same rate, and that causes the problem of you having to get the Supers in range for their attack without them being picked off. But hey, they get Double Move fairly early for Super pilots, so I guess there's help in that regard... doesn't help take out the fucking dummies, but still! It's something.

The real problem is, of course, you're trading various people who have bullshit MAPs, ridiculous power in all regards, and whatever else to get two guys who's big trick is killing a boss in one move when you can just have Dancouga/Shin Getter double team every boss for the same result on every route. (And yeah, they have a MAP of their own, but it's shit too)

-First seasons of Geass and 00
-Armageddon flashback period where Musashi's not dead
-First arc of Votoms and then Pailsen Files as a flashback
-Some amount of Godmars
-First 17-18 episodes of Wing
-Bits of original plot, although I think only one bad guy dies.

>>13548960
I know we all love to hate OE, but
>little next to no redeeming features
is just blatantly untrue.

There were plenty of things that OE did a wonderful job with. Sure, it also had a number of issues which completely ruined it, but that doesn't discount the substantial number of things it did quite well.
>>
>>13548430
srw 64 aint that easy. use em.
seabook ended up one of my most reliable units.
>>
>>13549214
Well, he did say "little"

Here's me giving it some credit -

-The animations were improved since NEO

-The basic system is an improvement where the weapon properties are on paper a bit more balanced than their NEO versions though in practice the huge HP bloat means you only really care about a few.

- The squad system is interesting to group up units that usually wouldn't get solo usage but this is marred by the Squad limit (which might be a technical thing) and "forced solo squad units" missions

It's ripe for a game that takes its engine and does it right next time, but I worry that OE bombing will scare them off the idea of making a sequel to its concepts
>>
>>13549216
There's also the fact that early on you'll be using units that you most likely won't hold on to by either the endgame or just outright lose like Quattro so it would be best to invest on things you can probably use in the endgame like the F91 and Zambot/Daitarn
>>
>>13549216
Only the early stages have some difficulty. Like 'that stage' where you lose 30 will.
>>
>>13549214
>>13549230
>but that doesn't discount the substantial number of things it did quite well.
But they DID.

It had little redeeming features because almost any minor positives it had were DIRECTLY negated by another problem. With that said....

>The animations were improved since NEO
By making all the finishers obviously pre-recorded non-AA'd videos rather than real time attack animations, there isn't even a point in using 3D models. Hell the Powered Natsumi attack is literally just one huge cut-in.

The other 'good' points are already elaborated on.
>>
>>13548626

Did you forget its 2-5 P 20 ammo finisher?

>>13548960
Now that's a bit much. OE was terrible, but it did things right too.
>>
>>13548626
I can account for Heavyarms being one of the more useful units in Compact. It's got a post movement ranged finisher, and while it doesn't get the liberty of double move, it takes a while for a lot of your non Gundam pilots (and by a while I mean I'm fucking 4 missions from the end of the game with no Double Move for Daba) to get it.

Less that, more that I haven't gotten around to finishing it yet. I'm on Chapter 6, my main issue is I have to record everything for Akurasu use and that takes a lot of time, and when I'm playing OE I don't want to be writing shit, I'd rather be playing a game.

Each stage has a stage reward. The CCA stage will either hand you a Jagd Doga, or an Auge. That's how it works.

Neither of them is particularly great, the Auge being somewhat better than L-Gaim Mk 2 in exchange for not having a MAP and the Jagd Doga suffering from "it's not Quin Mantha/Alpha Aizeru/Neue Ziel/F91/Nu/Sazabi/GP-02P/whatever else" syndrome. The big secrets on each stage are Quess and her Alpha Aizeru, which is fucking amazing, and Full Flat, who's the best L-Gaim pilot easily. (then Gablet Gablae, then Daba)

Deathscythe Hell Custom, along with the Sandrock Kai, always get the short stick when it comes to their EW versions. Altron is either the same, or actually alright, depending on the game.

Meanwhile, the Wing Zero Custom and the Heavyarms Kai are always the ones who get the most attacks, and thus are the most "complete" units, compared to the rest.

>for not having a MAP
Yeah, what a fucking tragedy.

Does Knight Alex get any special lines against enemies?

I got Full Flat, I was just wondering if I was supposed to get the Auge on that same stage or another
>If you play 6-3 first of the two selects, you will get the Jagd Doga (a Mobile Suit.) If you play it second, you will instead get the Auge (a Heavy Metal)
Now it makes more sense in context

According to the BX wiki, all the SD Gundam guys get special lines against a ton of enemy types, in and out of their own series.

UX and BX were pretty good about extra dialogue in general, like how pretty much everyone gets some kind of special line against ELS.

That's true, but considering how strong the two L-Gaim MAPs are and the fact that Full Flat/Gablet Gablae get Double Move for the last few stages, a MAP can be a pretty useful thing to have.

The real issue it has is that it comes really late in the game and isn't absurdly fucking broken like Alph.

They really, really were.

Only thing I wish they did was give all the battleship captains support lines with each other, since they have a tendency to get into situations where those would be useful.

Which wiki had the special quote list again?

Here you go. Note that this is just the section for allies attacking enemies, there's sections for other sets of lines, I haven't looked to see how complete they seem, though.
