He's a minor writer who fascinates a lot of people because of his tragic meme life. Also the USA is starved for artists so they'll take anyone they can claim.
He is not a hack but the unity of his vision basically amounts to nothing more than fetishizing dead women. This is a good and noble subject about which to write but in the end it's not a higher calling.
