durant is a much worse version of jm roberts who wrote a history of the world. i'd read that. and if you want to know more about different periods, and have a fuck ton of time on your hands, then maybe read some durant. he's a decent scholar but doesn't seem to have the mental horsepower to really tie together huge swaths of history in a compelling way.
