Help me, my prose is pretentious as fuck. It's just how it comes out. Is this something I should fix? It seriously comes out like some 19th century dickbag.
Just think more consciously about the tone you want to take. Everyone has that "phase" where they write in the way they think actual writing sounds, just practice.

My writing comes off exactly as my voice. This is both good and bad in that I have a hard time writing characters that don't sound like me when they speak.
