Are there any good books that take place in high school or have a high school age protagonist?

Quarantine? I wouldn't bother with teen books, do you want adult books?

I'll admit I was curious because a vast majority of Japanese light novels are focused on a high school setting, but most of them are absolute garbage. I wanted to know if there western novels that handle those types of stories better.

I can't think of any. Only teen books deal with high school. Carrie might be good. My personal favorite is Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha was okay. It only gets to high school around the end, though.

It's not Ulysses or Gravity's Rainbow, but Pessl's Special Topics in Calamity Physics is pretty entertaining. It's basically Tartt's The Secret History in high school, but I recommend it.
>high school age protagonist
No one mentioned Catcher in the Rye yet?
