None of that economy shit really matters because the population which votes gets only tiny percentage of the proseeds from those trades. It's completely rational for them to throw the economy under the bus. You are a democracy, you fail to satisfy the majority, now you are fucked. If you want a political system where you can keep ignoring the majority in regular basis, you need to look somewhere else.
And if there really was some quantifiable sum of money those trade deals were worth why didn't the remain camp just bribe the electorate? Vote yes and we promise you these tax cuts/social reforms whatever. The issue wasn't brown people it was human well-being of the majority.

Now what is the rational thing for the person who does not have a golden goose to do? It's to try to leverage his vote, maybe get some of those golden eggs.
